Ski areas opening early, here and B.C.

Washington's ski and snowboarding season didn't wait for Thanksgiving this year. In the wake of storms dumping snow on the Cascades, Crystal Mountain ski area opened today. Mount Baker Ski Area is set to open Thursday, and White Pass plans a Saturday opening.

In British Columbia, Whistler Blackcomb resort announced that Whistler Mountain lifts will also begin operation Saturday.

Crystal opened the Discovery, Chinook Express, Forest Queen and Quicksilver lifts today. Tentative plans were to start the Rainier Express and Green Valley lifts Thursday. This morning, Crystal reported 24 inches of snow at the base and 33 inches at the summit.

"i wonder what al gore would say? "

He'd say that the coral reefs are disappearing, ice continues to recede in the Arctic Circle & in Antarctica, and that global climate change basically continues unabated.

A few early snowstorms don't really change the trends.

There are short-term trends & long-term trends.

If you look at the data, there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the planet is not undergoing a pretty significant change in climate. The debate is about AGW; it's not about whether the climate is actually changing.

I always get a good chuckle when people point to something like an early snowstorm, or a freezing day in April, and imply that it shows that there aren't changes going on...

you miss my point.....changes DO happen...per the the AGW and per the annual year.....

He might say he was going skiing. Are you trying to say that a few ski resorts in America disprove the theory of global climate change? Ohhh yeeeeaaahhhhh. riiiiiight. Perhaps God, who you continually beseech to bless you has done exactly that!

calm down drugstore cowboy.....

If that is intended as an insult please explain what you mean by 'drugstore' since, not being American, I have never taken drugs, and why cowboy? One of those silly hats would certainly look strange here.

yeah..... and eleven years of the earth not warming further doesn't change his story either....

oh wait... it did... we went from calling it global warming to 'climate change'... because that way we can blame the warm and cold trends on mankind.

There are plenty of valid reasons to curb pollution and emissions... fear mongering is not needed. Over hyping false scenarios only hurts the cause.

2005 was the hottest year on record. The only people who question global warming are amateurs who are practicing their wishful thinking skills.

Don't forget that it was originally the fault of humans and now it's about our contribution to it.

People like Al Gore keep moving the goal line. First we humans were totally at fault for global warming, then we contributed to heavily to climate change. Now we have to give money to the developing world because of our "climate debt" or some such horseshit. Has it ever occured to any of them that this is just what is happening. Who was to blame for the last ice age? The fact that we exist at the same time as global warming is coincidence. Climate models keep failing, even at NASA. Shit happens globally, like SF said, there are plentry of reasons to reduce polutant emissions without resorting to Day After Tomorrow bullshit fear mongering.

I'm not fear-mongering by pointing out clear indicators all over the planet that we're experiencing a shift.

We have had basic agreement on this; I don't necessarily think that it's a coincidence that all of this happened to coincide w/ the industrial revolution, but I also realize it's impossible to prove, and I can't claim any kind of certainty. It's basically a moot point, because even if all emissions stopped tommorrow, it likely wouldn't make much of a difference. And I agree that there are plenty of other good reasons to go green, and I tend to focus on those reasons.

I just think it's funny & silly when there is an unseasonably cold day or week or month, and the flat earthers come out of the woodwork to essentially say "some global warming!"

Fucking Bingo again goddammit. Superfreak I'm getting a bit tired of you crushing climate chage (this years fund raising catch phrase) alarmist. The pool of available turbo- limosine liberals has dramatically shrunk with Bush's recession and we need them
available. This month they are working overtime to ensure divorce rights for gays.

In matters of science the goal line must move. Only in matters of faith will it remain set in stone.
