Cellphone records help to clear a murder suspect

"A man was cleared of murder charges in Brooklyn yesterday after offering cellular telephone records that indicated he was in Newark when the crime was committed, according to a report in The New York Times."

"Mr. Wright had been charged with fatally shooting Tyrell Pope, 23, in East New York, Brooklyn, in July 2006. When he was arrested in November, court records show, he acknowledged some bad relations with Mr. Pope but denied involvement in his death, The Times reported."

So they arrested this man because he had bad relations with the suspect? That's just scary.

Well, you go to the house of the people he called and ask who they were speaking to at that time.

So what if that person was an accomplice?

ie.... You and I don't like someone. We plot to eliminate them. I hand you my cell phone and you take it home with you. At a pre-arranged time, you take my cell phone and call your home phone with it.... while I take care of the elimination. Phone records will show I was talking to you, you testify that you were talking to me... I get away with murder.

:D

All of them were? I doubt that.

The story imlies he made "calls". He'd have to have a whole cabal of people in on it in order to make your story credible.

yeah, I didn't actually read the story. That might have helped. But when you think about it... I did just propose a way to get an alibi if you stick with just one person and a "long" phone call.
