Zimmerman's father, 64-year-old Robert Zimmerman of Lake Mary, delivered a one-page letter to the Sentinel on Thursday, saying that the depiction of his son in the media has been cruel and misleading.

George Zimmerman is Hispanic and grew up in a multiracial family, the statement says.

"He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever ...," the letter says. "The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth."

your apology for making this incident all about a white on black hate crime???????? i wont hold my breath, because I don't particularly see any liberal on here taking responsibility for their irresponsible accusations.

IMO 99% of parent would defend their kid against racism, even if it was obvious. So dad's comment doesn't weigh too heavily with me.

His 911 calls all seem to be reporting suspicious blacks more than any other types. I am sure he is a nice guy, but he overstepped his authority and murdered a young man in the process,

Do you really think he didn't discrimate based on the victim's color?

I'd like to hear that. I'd like you to say something to the effect of, "Yes, I've listened to the tape. There is nothing to indicate that he is discriminating against the victim or stalking him because of his color."
 
i wouldn't rest my case on the opinion of a parent. they are naturally going to bias and just because you're razed in a multi-cultural family or are hispanic, does not mean you can't be racist.

i will wait to until more evidence and facts come to light. btw...does anyone have a link to the tape. i would like to listen to it, i didn't know it was available.
 
Eh STY doesn't care about the racism, he just thinks that people should shoot eachother more often and dispense with the need for the state to do it.

Part of the 911 tape released today have Zimmerman calling him, Trayvon, a "fucking coon", Now who needs to step back and reevaluate?
 
If it were racism it wouldn't be "white on black"... I wonder if this makes it so the Libertarians are off the hook for the blame. ;)

sounded exactly like that to me. when i heard that...it became very clear this guy had it out for trayvon solely because he was black. the guy is a racist by his own words. i wouldn't be surprised if he made the comments about trayvon's hand in his waist band solely to build a case....then the idiot doesn't realize his whisper could be captured by the recording. this guy was out for vengance, and when he found a "coon"....his hatred boiled over.

unless some new and surprising facts come to light...this guy is going away for a long, long time.

being that i've heard just this one 911 call, I can't say that he's discriminated based on race. Based on the statement of the father, which it seems most people here quite quickly dismissed it as nothing more than parental defense (nothing like jumping to conclusions while condemning others for doing the same), I'm inclined to continue to wait for more facts to come out before labeling a crime as racist or denigrating a law because they feel it contributed to the crime.

Next month is challenging. I've heard that April is "Try to make Obama Accept Responsibility" month. It's going to take Chuck Norris to get it done.
