Disdain for Human Rights
Indoctrinated with fear of perceived enemies, people are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need".

Rampant Sexism
Traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as are homophobia etc.

Controlled Media
Sometimes the media is controlled directly by the government; in other cases it may be controlled indirectly by sympathetic media spokespeople and executives.

Use of Religion
Fascist regimes use the dominant religion of the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric from government leaders is common, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's actions.

Corporate Power is Protected
The corporate elite of a fascist nation are often the ones who put the government into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship.

Rampant Corruption
Fascist regimes are almost always governed by groups of cronies who use government power to protect their friends from accountability. At the same time, they may make a big display of "rooting out corruption".

Disdain for Intellectuals
Fascist regimes often promote hostility to intellectuals and academia. Freedom of thought and expression is openly attacked.

Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections are a complete sham; other times they are manipulated by smear campaigns, use of legislation to control voting numbers, gerrymandering of political districts, and manipulation of the media.

Not needed. he is tearing down and taking over what is left of the institutions that historically stand up to the president. He is shredding the justice dept and appointing judges whose most important quality is loyalty to him. He almost rejected Gorsuch for insufficient obsequience.

Trump has accelerated hate for foreigners. After all, they are rapists and criminals . We need a wall. A huge wall that will make us safe from "others".

People may have more of a clue before long, and some of them seem to like it.

How many of those "characteristics" can be checked off against what is happening now? Imo it's an amateurish kind of fascism, but if you have to put a name to it, that's what it is.

I think America's institutions are strong enough to withstand it, but it could still do damage.

Well Ralph, you insist that Hitler was a socialist. Does that explain why he was finessed into power by the far-right National Party (which shortly coalesced with the Nazis), and was then granted dictatorial powers by the arch-conservative President Hindenburg?

They thought they could control him. They did NOT think he was a socialist.
