Some photos of the "good life" in Moscow. This was the best it got in the 1980s under the Soviets. The absolute best, the rest of the Socialist Paradise had it far worse...

Socialism sucked for most... it would especially suck if you got medication from the end of the month quotas which often were not quite up to par...

You were lucky if you went to the universities, their quotas were strict.

You could not get a car without several years waiting for a permit to buy one. Then the "choice" of car was no choice, you got a black sedan with windows that wouldn't even roll down. Not kidding.

Families often shared apartments because there was not enough housing.... my teachers at the Defense Language Institute would tell me of the time of Stalin... Some families would turn other families in to the state so they could get their apartments for a few more square feet.
