States urged to open adoption records

I'm kind of with the conservatives on this one (as much as it pains me to admit), I think if anything it would encourage more young mothers to opt for abortion. Plus, states are basically renegging on what they agreed to years ago.

I don't care about knowing who they are, just what their medical history is. My grandmother was my father's mother, she raised him, etc. Not some body that incubated him.

Like I said, I think that's a valid point that can be easily addressed. Instead of making records mandatory perhaps teh mother could provide a medical history at the time of birth and maybe a follow-up when the kids 18 rather than opening all the records.

I'd have liked that. I don't really care who she is. It would be even better if I could know both of his bio-donor's medical histories, but sometimes that is impossible.

One of the most conservative states in the country.... Kansas... has always had an open record policy.

That said, I think there is room in the middle here. I think a complete medical history should be made availalbe to the adopted children when they reach age 18. With technology today, we should be able to do this today without disclosing the names of the parents. The biological parents should be able at any time to "opt in" to having their names released if inquired upon.
