So there was this European band that got quite famous real fast in contrast to the long haul most bands take on before hitting it big. This band didn't play clubs long and before their second album they were playing support in amphitheaters. This quick success is unusual for a rock band but not unheard of and it earned them some hard fans, one of which was an obsessive nutcase.
This particular fan started attending their shows half the way through their first tour and would attend every one of their shows no matter how many borders they crossed or how far away from his home country they went.
The rock band hadn't started to notice him until their road crew caught him trying to sneak in back stage on two separate occasions in two countries 2000 kilometers apart. They realized it was the same guy and started keeping tabs on him. He never attended shows with a girlfriend or any friend for that matter. He appeared to purchase every piece of merchandise that the rock band promoted and was covered in the most band-stamped swag they'd seen any fan wear.
Half of the rock band's members treated this fan with caution and considered him to be a dangerous threat to their livelihood and possibly even their lives, if he became obsessed enough. The remainder of the rock band thought it was delightfully funny and wanted to start playing with the situation, knowing they could play this crazy fan like a fiddle.
So they hired an ex-mercenary private detective to follow him and obtain as much information about him as they could, which wasn't difficult because he was following them everywhere they went no matter how far they would go. All they needed to do was give the detective a photograph of him that security took the last time he tried to sneak in back stage.
When they played their next show the detective easily spotted the nutsoid fan near the stage. When the show ended the detective simply followed him out of the concert and stayed tacked on him like glassy glue.
True story. This went on for about two years before this rock band broke really big and then at that point they were too wealthy and easily elusive for the crazy fan to persistently track and he would never get closer than front row of the stage ever again to any of the rock band members.
