Stray Dogs and Cats....

From Sarah Palin's Facebook:

What am I missing, folks? We’re called obstructionists and made to feel uninformed in the Obamacare debate as we point out this is not a patient-driven, market-oriented approach to health care cost challenges. We’ve been saying for months that this is government takeover of our personal choices of insurers and doctors. We’re called liars when claiming that this is all about government mandates and control of up to a sixth of our economy.

And yet, shockingly, the president admitted yesterday exactly what we’ve been saying: that his Democrats and lobbyists have crafted bills that in fact will prevent us from keeping our current insurance and/or choosing our own doctor. He said:

The last thing I will say, though -- let me say this about health care and the health care debate, because I think it also bears on a whole lot of other issues. If you look at the package that we’ve presented -- and there’s some stray cats and dogs that got in there that we were eliminating, we were in the process of eliminating. For example, we said from the start that it was going to be important for us to be consistent in saying to people if you can have your -- if you want to keep the health insurance you got, you can keep it, that you’re not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your decision making. And I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge. [emphasis added]

Thanks to Tom Bevan at RCP for spotting this. The president’s statement is shocking, enlightening, and in an odd and unfortunate way also encouraging. Folks, this admission tells us we’re not off-base and we need to stay vigilant so we’re not missing anything else in this scheme. This trillion-dollar government takeover of our health care system is full of “stray dogs and cats” (the president’s words, not mine), and that’s what we’ve been saying all along.

Commonsense conservatives have better ideas on how to start tackling rising health care costs. Reps. Paul Ryan, Mike Pence, Eric Cantor, John Boehner, and others have offered solutions. I commend their efforts to counter the White House’s attempt to ram Obamacare through as these Congressmen seek bipartisan, sensible solutions. I implore them to speak louder because we’re listening, and we’re counting on them!

What you're missing, my dear Sarah, is what you wrote in the last paragraph, "Commonsense conservatives have better ideas on how to start tackling rising health care costs."

Some people can't wrap their minds around the fact rising costs is not the only problem. People were going without insurance 50 years ago because they couldn't afford it.And 40 years ago. And 30 years ago.

What you're missing is the ability to comprehend everyone deserves adequate medical coverage. Not an adjustment here and a tweak there.

Obama has started on the road to universal coverage. It will take time but it's a step in the right direction. If rising costs were the only problem then Medicare and Medicade would never have been implemented in 1965, unless one believes they were implemented due to rising costs, in which case if rising costs have been a problem for the last 45-50 years maybe it's time to take a different approach. Maybe that's why Obama said he didn't want to hear the same tired, worn out arguments.

The "pay or suffer" system wasn't working in 1965 and it's not working in 2010. You ask, "What am I missing?" The answer is you're missing the common sense to say "Enough is enough!" Government intervention was necessary 45 years ago and it's necessary today and it will continue to be necessary until there is universal coverage.

Apple, you are a dolt. NONE of the plans your Democrats have proposed, covers ALL Americans! The BEST plan you could get through the House or Senate leaves 30 million Americans not covered. So this little wet socialist dream you're having, is just that, a wet dream, nothing more.

We don't live in a Socialist country. Most Americans have no desire to live in a Socialist country, yet that is precisely what you continue to advocate and attempt to shove down our throats against our will. The people are fed up with you and your push toward Socialism, and it's going to stop because we still live in a democracy and we still have a vote. My suggestion to you and other nitwit Socialists, if you want to live in that kind of system, is to take up arms, go down to South America somewhere and overthrow one of those 3rd world countries, where you can implement your failed model of a failed ideology, and we'll be rooting for you to finally make it work for the first time in human history! BUT STOP TRYING TO FUCK UP OUR COUNTRY WITH YOUR SOCIALISM!

Huh?

Haven't you been saying since last year that the healthcare plan was 100% pure socialism?

Will not compute...

I said Obama has started on the road to universal coverage. It's a STEP. It will take time.

The reason 30 million Americans are not covered is because the "I don't give a damn about anyone but me" right wing is blocking it. As I have explained before it's not that difficult to ensure everyone has medical coverage. Dozens of countries have accomplished it, some for over fifty (50) years. That's two generations. Not bad for something that some people claim does not work, can't work, is a failure, can't be maintained and on and on with the lies and BS.

Universal medical does work, has worked, is working and will keep on working just like it has for a half century and when it comes to dreams that's exactly what's happening in your case. Universal medical is coming. The right wing may win a battle here and there but, like your name suggests, will eventually lose the war.

As medical care slowly changes people will see the benefits the same way no one is trying to get rid of Medicare, a government run medical plan. There is not one country that abolished government medical. Not one.

Why? Because once people see the benefits they fight to keep them and as rules come into effect the same thing is going to happen in the US so I strongly suggest you come to terms with it. It's not healthy for you to be fighting a losing battle unless your goal is to take advantage of free medical care. :)

Yea it's a complete and total canard. No one is saying that the government is going to confiscate private property. I personally fail to see what is wrong with "we the people" pooling our resources in order to provide affordable health care for one and all. No one should have to file for bankruptcy and lose all they they have worked for cause they or a family member got sick or injured nor should they have worry that they will not receive adequate health care because they can't afford to pay or had a "pre-existing condition".

But that's just one part of health reform. The other part is controlling cost and a big part of what drives up cost is not knowing what works and what doesn't. Where most modern nations have mandatory reporting on health care services so that efficacy can be evaluated, we do not and it drives up cost. A big part of the present HC reform bill addresses this serious problem.

I mean if you listen to right wingers like Dixie they would probably try and tell you that government shouldn't be interfering with Medicare. Indicating that they have bigger problems then trying to scare people with a word they really don't understand like "socialism".

Yea and let's list so of those notorious left wing liberal communist states with national health care programs.

Germany
Taiwan
Japan
Switzerland
France

What's interesting about France is that they have a national health care program, but it's even less regulated then our present system, it's mostly a private sector system with a public option and they achieve the greatest results in the world.

Of course Dixie will probably argue that we should never use notoreously liberal communist nations like Japan, Switzerland and Taiwan as examples on managing public health.[/sarcasm]

I'm going to make a map of communism that doesn't include China, Vietnam, or any part of Africa, but includes every high-income free market state in the world besides America.

That's what its like living in Dixieland.

This is the problem I have with Obama's concillatory statements and moderate mood. You can't treat conservatives as if they're human beings. They're dirty. They aren't good people. They'll take any concillatory statement and twist it to their own means. The only way to deal with such evil is to ignore it as much as possible and pound it into the ground otherwise. They are not rational actors; evil cannot be swayed by reason.

Huh? Explain to me how 40 Republican Senators "block" anything? Your party had a "supermajority" up until a few weeks ago! All of the closed-door meetings were among Democrats, the Republicans weren't even invited to sit in! You know, I really hope you nitwits attempt to sell this as your excuse for this colossal failure, because aside from koolaid-drenched KOOKS like you, NO ONE believes Republicans have the political power to block a goddamn thing. That is the most absurd and bizarre statement I have read on these boards in a week!

The reason this is going up in flames before your very eyes, is because the people of America do not want it! That's the part you seem to not get, and it is going to cost your party politically. I know you don't care, I know you are like Nancy Pelosi and you want to just leap over the wall or whatever, anything to pass health care reform... but it will come at a cost, a big cost. I hope it's worth it to you, because the next congress, likely controlled by Republicans, will simply undo whatever is done here. In America, you don't get to impose your will on the people, they have a voice and you will listen to that voice or face the consequences.

You better hope the Repubs undo everything because if the American people get a taste of decent health care it will be here for eternity. How do I know that? I know that because not one country has ever reverted to a "pay or suffer" system. Not one country.

You're a fucking idiot! You are talking about Socialist countries where the people don't get to take a piss without the government approving it! They don't have the freedom to CHOOSE whether to "revert" and even IF they did, what the hell are they supposed to "revert" back to? There is no more private enterprise once the STATE owns and controls it all! I am sure many of the ones currently DYING in these countries while they WAIT on WAITING LISTS to have surgeries, would LOVE to have a "pay or suffer" system, as opposed to a "suffer and wait" system! Unfortunately, in a SOCIALIST country, you don't get that choice, it is dictated to you by the STATE!

MORON!

Not even the commie liberal countries like Switzerland, Taiwan and Japan? Wow, if they only ever heard of capitalism.

GAWD, what a broken record.

"pay or suff,,,,,,pay or suff.....pay or suff.....pay or suff.....pay or suff...."

The broken record is folks like Dixie keep suggesting people won't like a universal health plan and there's no evidence of that, at all. Once a country has adopted a universal plan the citizens fight to keep it, without exception.

There is not a single country one can point to that reverted to the old "pay or suffer" system and every country started out with that system.

Let me dumb that down for you. Every country started out with a "pay or suffer" system. No exceptions. Every country started out that way.

Still with me? Great. Then countries started to change to a universal system. Every country that changed to a universal system has kept that system. Again, no exceptions. Every country has kept their universal plan.

There is only one conclusion any rational individual can come to and that is a universal plan is preferable to a "pay or suffer" system. There is nothing to debate. There isn't any facts to support a counter argument. None. Nada.

As long as some folks are misguided it's necessary to continue to lay out the facts. Perhaps if you assisted me we could end this sooner rather than later. Can I count on your support? :D

Your ignorance concerning universal plans is astonishing. The "State" doesn't own anything. One chooses their own doctor and the bill is paid by the government.

Think of it this way. If you get medical coverage through your employer you are part of a group. A universal plan is simply a group. A large group. A group that includes every citizen. There's nothing mysterious or devious about universal plans.
