Money meant to help families on welfare provide the necessities of life are apparently being used inappropriately by some recipients.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2012, members of the U.S. House of Representatives began debating HB 3567 and will vote on whether or not to amend title IV of the Social Security Act to require States to implement policies to prevent assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) from being used in strip clubs, casinos, and liquor stores.

LOL I have been to many a strip club and considering their nature, I've never been to one where there were customers on welfare! LOL What a bunch of political posturing. Those dastardly poor people! Damn them! Damn them all to hell! LOL
 
I don't know about the first two, but liquer stores here are like corner grocery stores. About 50% of their products aren't alcohol or tobacco, and they're a lot more accessible than grocery stores. Seems like a jab at the poor, at least in my neighborhood.
 
California put a stop to it a few years ago, those freeloaders can no longer get money from strip clubs or casino's.


Reporting from Sacramento — California welfare recipients have been able to get taxpayer cash — meant to feed and clothe their children — from ATMs at strip clubs across the state, including some well-known gentlemen's cabarets in Los Angeles. More than $12,000 from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program was dispensed between the start of 2007 and the end of 2009 at clubs, including Sam's Hofbrau, Star Strip and Seventh Veil, according to officials at the state Department of Social Services.

Nearly $4.8 million has been withdrawn from ATMs at casinos and poker rooms with welfare benefits cards from 2007 through last month, state officials said last week. The vast majority of that, $4.4 million, was withdrawn at tribal casinos.

I think they should track what the poor buy with those cards and then send government reps to tell the poor how to better live their lives. I mean... come on... we all know that government knows whats best for us and will only act in our best interest.
