For anybody who thinks you can deal with the Pakistani Taliban, this makes very depressing reading.

MIRANSHAH, PAKISTAN

The Pakistani Tailban are "delighted" that Malala Yousafzai, the teenage education activist they tried to kill, missed out on the Nobel Peace Prize.
A gunman from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) shot Malala in the head on her school bus on Oct 9 last year for speaking out against them. After the shooting she was flown to Britain for specialist care and made a remarkable recovery, going on to become a global ambassador for children's rights.

Spokesman Shahidullah Shahid told AFP the 16-year-old had done nothing to deserve the Nobel, which went to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). "We are delighted that she didn't get it. She did nothing big so it's good that she didn't get it," Shahid said by telephone from an undisclosed location. "This award should be given to the real Muslims who are struggling for Islam. Malala is against Islam, she is secular."

Malala won the European Parliament's Sakharov rights prize on Thursday, which the TTP condemned in similar terms, claiming "her struggle against Islam" was the reason the West was honouring her. Feted by world leaders and celebrities for her courage, Malala has addressed the UN, this week published an autobiography, and would have been the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate if she had won. Malala herself told Pakistani radio this week that she felt she had not yet done enough to earn the Nobel and spoke of her desire to do more practical work to promote education.

Malala first rose to prominence with a blog for the BBC Urdu service chronicling the difficulties of life under the rule of the Taliban, who controlled the Swat valley from 2007 until they were kicked out by the army in 2009. Though the military operation ended the Taliban's rule, pockets of militancy remain and it was in Swat's main town Mingora that Malala was attacked.

Noble committe said something about Malala "eventually" winning the Peace Prize.

Chem weapons removal are important, but not much of an inspiration. Malala is an inspiration in many ways

She may have won if O-BOMB-YA hadn't drawn that red line, which catapulted the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons into the spotlight.

even more depressing is watching the ISAF "transition"

http://www.justplainpolitics.com/showthread.php?56433-Afgan-president-Karzai-trashes-U.S.

I know Karzai is leaving office - he might very well be replaced by one of the 'warlords' running..

Get out, just pack up your old kit bag , and LEAVE

Be careful what you wish for, the Taliban are just salivating at the prospect of getting back to business as usual. I was watching a TV programme the other night about how girls, and women, are flocking to schools to get educated in their millions.

Did the Warlord O-BOMB-YA rob this precious young woman of her prize by spotlighting chemical weapons with his bungling in Syria?

How many Pakistani girls has O-BOMB-YA droned while violating the sovereignty of a supposedly allied nation?

Malala Tells Obama: 'End The Drone Strikes': "Innocent victims are killed in these acts, and they lead to resentment among the Pakistani people."

I am past caring about that hellhole, or the nest of vipers next door / Pakistan.

The US doesn't have any national interest in Afg. All we really care about is tamping down AQ Central. If we haven't by now -we never will.
I'm not prepared to engage in perpetual war.

At this point the transistion is going to happen, Kerry was there yesterday to "negotiate". The US should set the terms -take it or leave it - and
not be held hostage to that freak Karzai, or any of his sucessors.

I'd glady just cut bait and leave now; but if we are going to be there another year, it has to be on our terms when we negotiate any SOFA agreement.

"Congratulations @OPCW on winning the #Nobelpeaceprize and your wonderful work for humanity. Honoured to have been nominated @Nobelprize_org," was the message sent from the Twitter account of Malala's organization, the Malala Fund

Since they gave one to Obama for nothing, the Nobel PP has become nothing but a joke.

Wow, talk about coincidences!

I only pointed out you that quoted Reagan, denied you knew he'd said it, and then admitted it in the space of a few minutes to make fun of you.

You do understand the difference between absolute knowledge and random luck, don't you?

Why would anybody want to make fun of me?
