A chemistry project caused a big problem at Pinellas' Seminole High School Tuesday morning.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office says students were given an assignment to bring in a substance from the Periodic Table of Elements.

One student brought in mercury -- contained within a thermometer -- and the school went into lockdown.

Cool!

When I was in 6th grade, I made gunpowder for my project, and the teacher didn't realize what was about to happen. The firemen had to come, and we had to evacuate the school.

I got an A+.

Today I would be taken by the cops.

Why didn't you post the part about WHY the school went into lockdown?

Because students had been told NOT TO BRING TOXIC SUBSTANCES to school, but one little moron just couldn't help himself.

We once convenced our Chemestry teacher to prove a baloon was full of Hydrogen, as she claimed. She held it over a Bunson burner and caused an explosion. She said she did not realize it would do anything other than a quick flame...

A thermometer is not a toxic substance....considering that EVERYTHING is toxic is taken in sufficient quantity....

But the MERCURY INSIDE IS.

The school SPECIFICALLY asked students to NOT BRING toxic substances, MERCURY INCLUDED, to school.

One thoughtless little pinhead got the school locked down, not a ridiculous policy as STY seems to indicate.

lmao

so the thermometer's we used for decades are now a dangerous toxic substance according to idiot zappa and the school

TFF...i actually had one until the mid 90's

follow the link if you want to buy these "dangerous toxic substances"

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=pd_sl_1...thermometers&ie=UTF8&psrk=mercury+thermometer

Show everyone where I say a thermometer is a toxic substance.

I never said any such thing

Another outright lie from the Yurt.

But since Yurt isn't interested in debate, just in hijacking threads with his petty personal attacks, why should he worry about the truth?

what did he bring to school?

you said what he brought to school is a toxic substance.

poor zappa, can't keep his thoughts straight and then runs from his claims when shown what an idiot he is.

it is so toxic, they you can put it in your mouth you fucking retard.

This a little off topic but I remember when I was in high school and they had a tough anti-smoking policy. So, one day I went to see the Principal to ask him why and he told me tobacco/nicotine was addictive, a drug, so I told him I knew of something else to smoke that wasn't tobacco and, maybe, that could be permitted. Would he like me to bring in one of those cigarettes to show him? He said that would be a good idea and I replied I would bring one in the next day. :)

True to my word the next day I went to his office and told his secretary I had a special cigarette for the Principal. The three ladies who worked in the reception area looked at each other and then his secretary escorted me to his office.

I handed the Principal the cigarette. "What is it", he asked. I told him it was made from lettuce leaves, nicotine-free. "Do you think we could smoke these", I asked. He said he would think about it and let me know. Then he asked if he could keep the cigarette. "Sure", I replied. I have a lot more.

The following week I returned to see him but he still maintained it wouldn't be healthy so the anti-smoking policy remained in effect.

OK. Here comes the punch line. Little did I know that some students were selling marijuana cigarettes at the school. (I know. I was naive from the farm.) Those guys heard about a "special" cigarette I had brought the Principal and thought I turned in a marijuana cigarette. So, I had the drug dealers after me and I had the school authorities thinking I was a smart ass. It was a perilous time.

It's a good thing that he didn't bring in a container of dihydrogen monoxide.
A single gallon of it is enough to kill the entire class.

what did he bring to school?

A thermometer...filled with toxic Mercury.

Look at the silly partisan hack Yurt playing his petty word parsing games again...LOL!

But then petty word parsing games are all he's got...again!

you said what he brought to school is a toxic substance.

Is Mercury a toxic substance? The school even told students NOT to bring certain toxic substances...but if you'd read the article you'd know that.

poor zappa, can't keep his thoughts straight and then runs from his claims when shown what an idiot he is.

That's it...play your petty little word parsing games...LOL!

it is so toxic, they you can put it in your mouth you fucking retard.

You can put Mercury in your mouth? I'd like to see you try?

he brought the substance contained in a safe medium, so safe you can put it in your mouth and yes, i've put mercury in my mouth and so have you dumbfuck

but zappa would have you believe he just brought the mercury in a dangerous container...

what a dishonest fool

as dumb as the school. and really to go into lock down and call hazmat....LOL...only fools like zappa and the school would support such a dumb fucking move.

It's another post from Yurt and...surprise...another LIE!

Of course I never implied the student brought the Mercury to school in anything but a thermometer, but when have the facts ever slowed down the LYING YURT?

From post #15...where I state quite clearly what the student brought the Mercury to school in:
A thermometer...filled with toxic Mercury.

Silly, lying Yurt just cannot have an honest discussion with me. his hatred runs that deep.
