What kind of taxpayer are you (this year, or generally)?

I was going to add a poll, but nevermind, not having one will open up the conversation more. I just thought of this while filing because we're hearing more and more about how fewer and fewer people actually pay income taxes at the end of the year.

Of course, anyone who has withholding pays income taxes in some form. Even if you receive a refund, the Federal government has received an interest free loan from you.

Anyway...let's see where this goes.

I add the point about this year because I recognize some tax situations may have changed somewhat, or even substantially based on the economic situation in 2009.

I had unemployment income on my return this year, and I was in no position to subtract any withholding on it at the time. So, I was pleased that I wasn't hosed the way I thought I was going to be.

Having a job that actually pays helps with that problem. If you have a good enough job and you hold onto it long enough, you actually get hosed every year.
