"teachable" photo op moment with free beer

(Not a rhetorical question) Do you think we learned anything more about race relations based on this incident? Charges by black folk of being profiled by police or treated differently are definitely not new although its possible I guess a few white people may not have known it. Professor Gates' response would not be the first time someone reacted like he did.

I would hope this is a learning experience of some sort. Just seems to me a case where both parties overreacted and due to the people involved in made national news. Maybe the overreaction is the take away?

I agree... and if seeing that overreaction on the part of Crowley, Gates AND Obama makes us all realize and accept that there are a lot of simmering unresolved - and completely legitimate - animosities in our nation surrounding race relations and we should all try a bit harder to take a chill pill... that would be a good take away, wouldn't it?

It was about as dumb as Jimma Carter sitting in front of a fireplace with his sweater on telling us to all turn our thermostats down...Or Billy Boy Clinton staring into a camera telling the American People that a knob job wasn't sex..

what is is about Democrat presidents...they are all clowns..

Well, you had a member of the press who found out that Gates & Obama were friends....so they bring it up at a press conference...and the rest is history, as it were. I'll always wonder if Gates was NOT linked to Obama, would anyone had deemed the situation worthy to bring it national attention at a Presidential press conference? And if not, how long would this incident have played in the national media, and to what degree?

But Obama is nobody's fool. His "beer break" essentially absolves all parties of mortal sin without ever admitting to such, in a weird sort of way. And America is once again left to try and ignore the 800 pound gorilla that sits in the living room of its social consciousness. And the beat goes on.

if i recall correctly, it was obama that said gates was his friend, not a reporter....further, it was already a national issue at that point....so...yes, obama would have been asked about it regardless of his relationship with gates

obama is a fool, so he is everyone's fool....he is owned by soros....

i agree with your point about america is once again left to "try" and ignore the issue....IMO....this worthless photo op for obama furthered that, no public discussion, just.....hey, let's have beer, disagree, and ignore it

Hmmm, one would have to assume that the reporter DID NOT notice that Gates and Obama were fellow alumni as they researched before going to the press conference...and when you think of all the incidences that occur on the national media grid that are more dire (property, economic, physical damage), it's kind of interesting that a reporter who DID NOT do their homework would put this to Obama during a press conference dominated by the economics of health care. Oh well, just speculating here.

Oh spare us all with these right wingnut bleatings!

Well, let's see if there is anything to follow this....and then we can all have at it again!
