LIBERALS WANT TEACHERS TO GET HIGHER SALARIES AND MORE BENEFITS
Jennifer Drushel, 30, was arrested Monday, Jan. 14, for an alleged improper relationship between educator and student in connection with her position at Navasota High School.
“We were alerted late Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10, that a teacher from Navasota High School had allegedly been involved in unlawful conduct by knowingly participating in and allowing the consumption of alcohol by minors,” said Superintendent Stu Musick in a written statement Monday afternoon. “That investigation lead to information regarding the improper exchange of electronic communications between the teacher and the student. Further information lead to evidence of an improper relationship.”
According to Chief Shawn Myatt, NISD contacted the department in reference to a possible student/teacher relationship at the high school Friday, Jan. 11.
“Officers investigated the allegation and interviewed the parties involved,” said Myatt. “Sufficient evidence was gathered and an arrest warrant was issued Jan. 14.”
Navasota ISD placed Drushel on administrative leave. No information has been released on the age or identity of the student involved in the investigation.
“No matter the age of the student, a teacher or staff member, as an adult, is held to a higher standard of accountability by both the law and the Educator Code of Ethics,” said Musick. “We will continue to work with the investigation of the Navasota Police Department and continue that investigation on our end, as well.”
The charge of improper relationship between educator and student is a second-degree felony. Navasota ISD stated that the district reported the investigation to the Texas Education Agency and the State Board of Educator Certification as required by law.
