Teacher exchanged thousands of texts of a sexual nature with underage student

The Leon County School District on Thursday said it fired Sophina Webb — who was arrested last week on 24 counts of soliciting a minor using a computer — after briefly placing her on administrative leave in late December.

The statement confirming Webb's termination comes weeks after police said they found thousands of text messages, many of a sexual nature, exchanged between the 27-year-old Webb and a 15-year-old student.

Some of the messages, according to timestamps in a probable cause affidavit, were even sent during school hours.

Teacher arrested, accused of sexual incident with student

Gino F. Rosales was arrested shortly after 9 a.m. Friday, following an investigation into a complaint that a teacher and minor were having inappropriate communications, police said.

The investigation started on Dec. 12, 2021, after a parent said a teacher and minor were having inappropriate communications both during and after school hours, at an institution formerly in the 3600 block of West Lake Avenue. Police said the investigation revealed some communications were of sexual nature and a battery had occurred.
