What's the scoop on that? The Von Trapps car is hidden, so it's not like the Germans could have seen it. Yet, they decide to commit all resources to searching the Abbey, as opposed to any one of a hundred other places in Austria, and assuming that the Von Trapps weren't hightailing it straight to the border.
Beyond that, they spend an inordinate amount of time on the one specific area of the Abbey where the Von Trapps are hiding, going past each column meticulously w/ flashlights.
