The Alaska Republican Party has voted to censure U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and will recruit a challenger to run against her in next year’s election.

The Republican State Central Committee voted in favor of the censure during a meeting Saturday in Anchorage after district-level officials passed a series of similar resolutions.

Under party rules, a resolution of censure is just “an official rebuke and disapproval,” but a copy of Saturday’s resolution explicitly states that the party “will hereby recruit a Republican Party challenger to oppose and prohibit Senator Murkowski from being a candidate in any Republican primary to the extent legally permissible.”

“We’re looking for somebody else to be our U.S. Senator in 2022, and somebody who will be more in line with the Republican philosophy,” said Kris Warren, who wrote Saturday’s resolution and serves as the chairman of the Republican Party in an Anchorage House district.

He confirmed the accuracy of the resolution.

The vote was 53-17 in favor of censure, according to three people who attended the meeting. The party has been upset with Sen. Murkowski for quite some time,” he said. “And we’ve actually considered a similar resolution in the past. But I think what’s happened here in the last few months is kind of kind of the last straw. We felt that we had to make a strong statement.”

The resolution cites unhappiness with Murkowski’s votes on the impeachment, votes in favor of abortion rights, a vote against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, a vote against the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and votes supporting the confirmation of Deb Haaland as secretary of the Interior Department.

Because of those actions and others, the resolution says, “the Alaska Republican Party hereby censures Senator Lisa Murkowski for her votes and actions contrary to the Alaska Republican Party platform and the best interests of the state of Alaska.”

This is what did it for me:
a vote against the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh,
It will be fun seeing her go.

Which means absolutely nothing, chances are all those Republicans who voted against perpetuating Trump’s lie were also censored by their local GOP

True it means nothing but there is widespread dissatisfaction with her in AK. It’s just one more nail in her political coffin. She had a good run for a while, benefiting from nepotism.
She’ll get a nice pension and hopefully move to AZ, better yet, San Francisco amongst the poop.
Voting against Kav after that heinous confirmation hearing was ,for me, unforgivable.

She isn't going anywhere. She ran against the Republican nominee by write in.

And won.
6 years ago. Even I wrote her name in.
Joe Miller was considered a nut back then. Now she’s the nut. In fact I’m pretty sure Miller will run and as of now I plan to vote for him unless ,e.g., the other Dan Sullivan runs. Imagine that. Two Senators from the same state named Dan Sullivan.

She's been a trump toadie at every turn. The only thing she did right was to recognize that Kavanaugh is a drunk.

Admittedly I haven't followed what she's done other than voting against Kavanaugh and she voted to convict Trump in impeachment. But she got called a Trump toadie ITT. It's possible she is I guess, but it seems really strange the Republican Party would censure someone who is a Trump toadie.

Just like Collins, she plays the Republican moderate, slightly right of center, but when it comes to actual decision time, she predictably swings right, therefore one entity wants her censored the other refers to her as a Trump toadie, truth probably lies somewhere in between

Lisa Murkowski was primaried by the GOP in 2010 and won the general election as a write in candidate. I don't think the fact that the GOP party fanatics don't like her says much about her favorability with Alaskans in general. They tried to get rid of her once before and they failed. The GOP candidate was a sore loser and tried to claim ballot fraud but lost in the Alaskan courts. I doubt much has changed. If it happens again, the democratic candidate could throw their support to Murkowski in another write in bid.

Let's make a list of things worse to be than a Republican in Alaska.

The aquatic microbes that eat whale shit at the bottom of the Mariana Trench are a possible submission for discussion,
but is that really worse than being a Republican in Alaska?

No sober, rational adult thinks she's a nut.

Pretty much counts you out.

Even stranger they would overwhelmingly vote to censure a trump toadie. Her best chance to get re-elected would be if no “independent” runs. (No one dares call themselves a democrat in AK)

Murkowski is a Repub and has voted with the reds for a long time. Occasionally she votes her conscience and does the right thing pissing off the reds. Then she gets ripped not the party for insufficient Trumpiness. The Trump purity test is still in force, even when he is off in the gulag.
