John Kerry? You are kidding me. He was a Viet Nam vet who fought in serious combat. He saw soldiers who did wrong things and told. Soldiers always do horrible things in wars. Because he was a true American hero, and Bush was a Texas cocaine party pilot, the Reds had to dismiss his truth. That is when invented Swiftboating. They attacked Kerry's true heroism by repeating lies about them until really easy people to con, bought it. That technique has continued to this day. Reds go directly at an opposing candidate's strengths with terrible lies. Make big lies and repeat them ad nauseam until enough people buy the lie. It was proven by Hitler that it works. It has been used by the Repubs over and over since. Thus Trump's Big Lie.
