"The Washington NFL Team released its new name, the Commanders, after decades of conversations, protests, written letters, and media appearances from Indigenous peoples telling owners that the previous name was (and still is) a racial slur. Sponsorship pressure was the last straw.

"The new name unveiled Wednesday comes 18 months after the franchise dropped its old nickname.

"In July 2020, Carla Fredericks, now the president of the Christensen Fund, told Indian Country Today how the fight had shifted to corporate boardrooms in the push to change the name."

Big thread on the ‘SC board about this and posters I know who are politically liberal thought this name was stupid. I don’t know what other names were up for consideration but I’m not sure why someone on the political right would dislike this new name more than a liberal. (Thought I read it had to do with the military but I could be off on that.)

Sounds like the name people in D.C. are calling it is “Going Commando”

Edit: For me personally I really don’t care and don’t think anything of the new name one way or the other. It is what it is

Hard to believe they spent all that time and money to come up with a name as lame as Commanders. It sounds like the name of a fictional football team on a low budget cable movie.


However, I am a lifelong enemy of the Deadskins, and their dumb and insensitive name needed to be updated!
 
Since liberals are ok with their members fucking various animals, how long before the rams, dolphins, bears, bengals, and cardinals have to change their names

I don’t even know why they needed a name, could have had the distinction of being the team with no name, eventually the fans would have come up with their own tag

LOL @ going commando. That was my husband's first comment too.

No, the RW gets butthurt if names/logos are changed from something that insults indigenous people (i.e., "redskins") to something different. OMG it's so WOKE. lol

They should just do sponsorships like NASCAR and other sports. "The Washington Prego Spaghettis" sounds delicious, doesn't it? The "New York Ever-Readies"? The "USC Trojans"? :laugh:

I always liked that DC area teams had names that were somehow associated with Washington, DC: aka, "Senators", "Nationals", "Capitols", "Federals".

My suggestion for the football team would be:

"Washington Insurrectionists"
