Made in opposition to the Patricians, the council promotes harmony, provokes thought, and rules JPP from the shadows. An exclusive club to protest exclusive clubs.

Topics will change every week. Try not to discuss old topics, but if one's popular enough, we'll continue it.

The topic from March 5th to March 12th is: What event/movement in the 20th century broke the most ground, or had the most influence?

Id say collectivly it would be World War II. The socital inplications are untold.

As far as single one event... maybe the death of John F. Kennedy which ushered in the Civil Rights Act and a new mindset regarding how the people relate to the government.

wwii was a continuation of wwi and was a direct result of the great depression

while the death of jfk is on the board (i mentioned the civil rights movement) the cold war with the possibility of world destruction out ranks wwi and wwii

and what about the space race with all of the technical / social consequences it spawned (checkout how many medical advances came out of wars and other races (including the space race))

and then there is the baby boom and what it did to the u s

The baby boom just killed our SS surplus, which didn't do that much about the debt, comparatively.

lbj kill the ss surplus when he stole ss funds to pay for the viet nam war and changed ss from a vested insurance program to a pay as you go program

it seems that neither he nor congress understand actuarial tables

the current problem with ss has been known for a long time but each congress/administration kept kicking the can down the road until they ran out of road and now say oh no what can we do

politicians love to make promises that they do not have to keep and can pass on to their successors...

oh well

Everything is connected in one way or another. Kennedy's death helped the space program retain its funding.
