The Dark Triad, the Dark Factor/D-Factor (psychology)

"The Dark Factor" is a psychological factor which determines a person's level of "aversive personality" AKA evilness. The bottom link is to an online test for research. There's two tests, a short and a long (70 question). I took the long test and then answered a few more questions to be allowed in the study. My score was 1.63 which puts me in the bottom 7% category.

the Dark Factor of Personality — we specify the basic principles underlying all aversive traits and thereby provide a unifying, comprehensive theoretical framework for understanding aversive personality. In analogy to the general (g) factor of intelligence, D represents the one basic general dispositional tendency from which specific aversive traits arise as manifestations. All commonalities between various aversive traits can thus be traced back to D, so that D represents the common core of all these traits.

From your article. All these traits/attributes describe trumpism:

5 traits linked to the dark factor of personality

Callousness describes a lack of concern for other people. Individuals with high levels typically do not care whether their own behavior causes harm or problems for other people.

Deceitfulness represents a willingness to engage in deceptive and illegal behavior, such as lying or cheating, to pursue one’s own interest.

Narcissistic Entitlement is characterized by a sense of self-importance and deservingness, meaning that individuals with high levels typically feel entitled to more attention or possessions than other people. In this sense, Narcissistic Entitlement can be interpreted as a specific type of belief that allows to justify selfish or malevolent behavior.

Sadism describes a disposition to deliberately harm other people in order to feel empowered and dominant or for personal pleasure and satisfaction. The harm inflicted on others can manifest in various ways, for instance physical, emotional, but also materialistic (such as destroying other people’s properties)

Vindictiveness is characterized by a pronounced desire to seek revenge, even to the point that one would accept own costs for the sake of retaliation.

Importantly, these five themes were shown to have much more in common than what sets them apart. That is, these characteristics are associated with one another to a substantial degree. For example, a person with high levels of Narcissistic Entitlement is very likely to also show high levels of Vindictiveness.

Ultimately, the common denominator among those themes is a tendency to pursue one’s own interests at the costs of others—as is the definition of D. Indeed, we rather recommend focusing on the overall D-score, although the newly gained information about which themes can be found under the umbrella of the Dark Factor of Personality further help clarify which sets of personality characteristics are shared by people with strong socially aversive tendencies.

The Dark Triad is a simpler form of the same behavioral analysis. It measures Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy...all major factors in Donald Trump's personality and other political leaders. The first link below is from 2020, the second from 2016. IMO, Trump has gone much deeper into the dark hole of the Dark Triad during his current term.

Highlights

  • Both Biden and Trump were attributed significant dark tetrad traits (DTTs)—Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy.

  • Trump was perceived as more narcissistic, psychopathic, and sadistic than Biden.

  • DTTs were related to voting willingness, modified by political views, trait intensity, and DTTs seen in an opponent.

  • Darker DTTs (psychopathy/sadism) decreased voting willingness; lighter DTTs (narcissism/Machiavellianism) were beneficial.

  • Perceived DTTs in an opponent had a stronger impact on willingness to vote than those attributed to a preferred candidate.

Donald Trump as High in the Dark Triad

Trump as narcissistic, Machiavellian, and high in psychopathy.

Agreed. Notice how many JPP MAGAts jump into that dark hole with him.

My score was 1.69, and my rank was 10%.

The transitional trait, in my opinion: "Valuing achieving one's own goals even if it harms others" - remember January 6th? Charlottesville? Disrespecting the Epstein victims by covering up his crimes?

Trumpism.
Excellent examples and agreed 100%. They are truly evil people.

Look who they worship and chose as their Messiah - A pathologically dishonest, vindictive, narcissistic, serial philandering orange oaf!
...whom they emulate daily. They're pathologically evil people. I suspect most are a combination of genes, disease (e.g. dementia) and choices.

More on the Dark Triad of personality traits. Note how many apply to MAGAts, especially MAGAt leaders past and present vs. those left of Alt-Right.

As the more intelligent, educated and saner members of JPP may have already gathered, there are certain occupations where psychopaths and other dark personalities thrive.

Since Trump keeps pushing "higher levels of corruption, inequality, poverty, and violence" into American culture, I expect we'll see more dark personality emerge.

Psychopaths and Other Dark Personalities Thrive in These Places

In their study, to quantify societal adversity, the team used World Bank data on corruption (control of corruption), inequality (Gini index), poverty (headcount ratio at $6.85/day), and violence (homicides per 100,000 people).

For U.S. states, the researchers used Census Bureau data on inequality and poverty, FBI homicide rates, and Justice Department corruption convictions. These metrics allowed consistent comparisons across global and state-level contexts to assess long-term societal conditions....

...."The more adverse conditions in a society, the higher the level of the dark factor of personality among its citizens. This applies both globally and within the United States," Zettler said.

Analysis of the data found that countries like Indonesia and Mexico or U.S. states such as Louisiana and Nevada—which had higher levels of corruption, inequality, poverty, and violence—also have higher "Dark Factor" levels....

...."Aversive personality traits are associated with behaviors such as aggression, cheating, and exploitation—and thus with high social costs. Therefore, even small variations can lead to large differences in how societies function," Zettler explained.
