The Election That Could Break America

Diversity Makes Greatness
"If the vote is close, Donald Trump could easily throw the election into chaos and subvert the result. Who will stop him?"

"If we are lucky, this fraught and dysfunctional election cycle will reach a conventional stopping point in time to meet crucial deadlines in December and January. The contest will be decided with sufficient authority that the losing candidate will be forced to yield. Collectively we will have made our choice—a messy one, no doubt, but clear enough to arm the president-elect with a mandate to govern.

As a nation, we have never failed to clear that bar. But in this election year of plague and recession and catastrophized politics, the mechanisms of decision are at meaningful risk of breaking down. Close students of election law and procedure are warning that conditions are ripe for a constitutional crisis that would leave the nation without an authoritative result. We have no fail-safe against that calamity. "

"The political system may no longer be strong enough to preserve its integrity. It’s a mistake to take for granted that election boards and state legislatures and Congress are capable of drawing lines that ensure a legitimate vote and an orderly transfer of power. We may have to find a way to draw those lines ourselves."

"Right now, the best we can do is an ad hoc defense of democracy. Begin by rejecting the temptation to think that this election will carry on as elections usually do. Something far out of the norm is likely to happen. Probably more than one thing. Expecting otherwise will dull our reflexes. It will lull us into spurious hope that Trump is tractable to forces that constrain normal incumbents."

This The Atlantic article is a long read, but it is extremely alarming. It is a wake-up call. We are likely about to enter unknown territory. Only a landslide with indisputable results, pretty much on election night, will forestall the messiest post-election fight in our history:

The article explores some of the ways Trump could try to upset the gameboard during the election and post-election if it's not going his way.

The number of ways things could go off the skids are infinite.

His armies of lawyers will be looking for every possible chink in the armor of our election system to exploit.

Everything points to this getting very messy.

It has been said that his favorite game as a child (in terms of years,) was Monopoly.

How much do you want to guess that if he's losing he overturns the gameboard?

No problem, just do what Trump wants. "We are going to see what happens, We want to get rid of the ballots and we will have a peaceful-there wont be a transfer frankly. There will be a continuation."
Who the hell can say something like that and not pay a price?

Hello Nordberg,

No problem, just do what Trump wants. "We are going to see what happens, We want to get rid of the ballots and we will have a peaceful-there wont be a transfer frankly. There will be a continuation."

Trump will pay any price he has to to get what he wants.

He is notorious for overpaying when he wants something.

He's done it many times in real estate, and been burned nearly every time.

The Taj Mahal.

The DC Hotel.

The Scottish golf courses.

Trump is a liar and a coward, but if he loses the election, his days in office are numbered. If he "overturns the gameboard" it will be by refusing to go to work. He'll skip town and go on permanent vacation in Florida leaving Pence to clean up after him until Inauguration Day.

When it comes to the people losing faith in those who run elections, losing faith that they will be conducted correctly, the Left is much more at fault.

Of course the Left is amazingly unselfaware.

Hello Dutch Uncle,

That would actually be nice compared to what's possible for a power-obsessed tyrant poised on losing everything and facing criminal charges.

No. He won't run away.

He'll fight with everything he's got, and he's got a lot.

Read the article.

All Trump does is run away and hide behind others. He's a coward. Vigilance is a good thing but he won't be in the WH after January 20th unless the Oval Office is a crime seen because he had his brains blown out by himself or someone helping him.

If there's a problem it will be White Supremacist assholes shooting people in the streets. Expect more dead people but not a dictatorship.

That said, if you are truly concerned follow this advice: Buy a gun. Learn how to use it. Buy lots of ammo. Be patient.

Hello Darth,

Read the article.

I’ll wait on the election just in case it becomes an academic question like in 2016 lol.

Like in 2017, when Democrats sprung a bogus dossier on Trump before he was able to warm up the chair in the Oval Office.

And see my sig.

The lack of self awareness is beyond astounding.

My expectations if the vote is close in November:

1. The Democrats will cheat and try to steal the election via fraud. (the Republicans might too but they're amateurs)
2. Both parties will massively lawyer up trying to change results in close states.
3. Whatever the result, nobody will like it.

"We want to get rid of the ballots."

Has an American politician ever been this openly opposed to Democracy in recent history?

If anyone is practicing fraud it is Trump, echoing lies endlessly

1. Trump is the only one guilt of fraud, perpetuating lies to undermine the election

2. Trump will lawyer up regardless if it merits lawyering up, unless Biden wins in an undeniable landslide Trump will take everything and anything to Court, and then appeal every decision no mater how significant to the election or how long it takes up to the SCOTUS.

3. If Trump does as expected it won’t matter who likes it, it will erase forever Americans faith in the election system, the very system necessary for a successful democracy, we will descend into third world status

1) The Republicans are the first to cry voter fraud then ask their voters to commit voter fraud.

That's how I see it happening too... with an exception. There are ppl lined up behind and around the Toadstool. They are slavering for power. They will goad and instigate and push him into issuing EOs and pardons and all sorts of fascist wet dream orders. But in the end -- they will amount to naught. He will leave the people's property, and slouch off into the south, where he will attempt to hold a court-in-exile. But w/o media coverage, like $arah Palin's dreams, it will eventually die away.
