The idiocy of "Common Core"

Tachiliberal proves himself a rightist. Death to liberalism! Just another form of ball-less soft-rightism that must be purged before the true revolution!

Oddly enough Ive looked into this Common Core thing more than a little, the thing Ive found is just how much missinformation there is surrounding it. If you look strictly at CC (ignore the industry surrounding it for a minute) and what you will see is a predectly normal curriculum, one very much like you will find most places in the country. What it seeks to do is have this commonset of educational stuff in use uniformly across the country. This is good for foreign investment as it gives them confidence that they can set up shop anywhere and have predictably educated workers. Like is done in countries thriving these days. Now... having said that, there are all these companies selling aids designed to aid this system. And when you look at their product offerings you will either love or hate them for their uber leftwing slant on everything. You see, there are many ways to cover algebra, WWII etc. People are rightly concerned about this but I would like people to be aware of the facts and avoid blaming CC for things it does not do. Its a curiculum, its not a methodology. And despite what you hear, LOCAL school districts or in some cases states are the ones who set the how. But dont believe me, go to the CC site and read for yourself what their curriculum consists of. You may not agree with it 100% but at least you will see 2hat Im talking about. Ive had heated debate elsewhere on this, folks continually point me at everywhere BUT the CC itself to tell me about it. And I go look. But when I ask them to show me where in CC it says what is being claimed they never do because it cant be done. Funnier still is when I get a response strangely akin to something Pelosi said of ocare having to pass it to know whats in it. (kind of a paraphrase but the irony is palpable). So thats my 2 cents on common core. prolly lose my conservative card but I cant ignore what I see with my own eyes.

Every teacher I have spoken to about Common Core hate it and the fact that we no longer allow creative, outside the box thinking in our curriculums. The teachers say it is more of the same. A polished turd.

I will get specifics for you.

There are still standards that must be reached and though they can develop their own curriculum, it must be done in over crowded classroom with a variety of learning abilities.

The program could be a successful according to my friend who is a principal, but it is according to how it is implemented, and how much training teachrs receive.

The teachers I talked to would like to see them allowed to return to creative teaching and let the local school boards set the standards as far as curriculum and local populations.

I just worry, again, about school with low funding being left behind. I think states with good track records need to continue with what they are doing and the Feds need to focus on those states whose children ain't learning.
