first, we never should have invaded

second, having invaded, we used too few troops and way too little equipment

third, the 'surge' was too little too late

maybe if we could put 500,000 fighting troops with complete support we might be able to pull this off, after 20 or 30 years...or until the oil runs out...

:readit:

I believe staying there until the oill runs out is the real objective.
To that end the plan has worked perfectly so far.

On the first point, yes we should never have invaded. In fact I'm a strong opponent of our foreign military bases in EVERY nation. However, now that we are there, why should we stay? Because the current consensus would be that we cut and run? Screw current consensus and take a longer view of things. We can leave right now. Yeah there would be a HUGE power vaccum (larger than the current one). Chaos would ensue. But this conflict would be neccesary. It would bring out what the people TRULY want and need. We could spend all the money (though hopefully we wouldn't since we WASTE 99% of it anyways) on humanitarian aid during these troubled times.

I read in several places that we invaded Iraq to keep the chinese from getting unfettered access to Iraqi oil. That makes more sense to me, than the malarkey bush and his supporters fed to us in 2003.

Yep and India as well, plus we are trying to do the same in Iran.

(you are captain jack are you not?)

yes get out and try and deal with whatever government gains power

if we do not like them, then kill them off and let another chaotic fight occur until we finally get the government that we want

oh, and keep the turks out of the kurd area

I keep hearing about how the Turks would run the Kurds over and I dont beleive it. The Kurds are mostly vets and have better equipment than the Turks. Plus we really shouldn't make a policy of eliminating a government that we dont like. That leaves alot of bad doors open. Now I never heard of Iraq invasion to prevent it from falling to China or India but that is starting to make sense to me.... But wouldn't they have the same diffuculties or worse in a military style occupation?

We have already established that we do our best (including invasion) to bring down governments that we do not like.

As for the Turks Vs the Kurds, we could leave some troops and supplies behind in the Kurdish area…

Ps is there a spell check option available on this board

Umm and what about Pakistan. Our boy General Muskrat is hanging in there by a thread, and they have the bomb....

You'll have to pardon my spelling. The return to America has brought on the return of a lovely think called "Beer" and thus it can impede my coherancy.

Turks, Kurds, Shites, Sunnies, Yazidis, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Isreal, China, Russia, Saudis, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Baath Party, (many more extending into africa and asia) and an American govt and military controlled by corporate greed. What a fucking fiasco.

If the people of this country were not so hypnotized by years of propaganda and fed a constant stream of lies, hate and fear after 911, maybe they would have been intelligent enough to see that the town drunk puppet from texas was poking a hornets nest with a stick. But no, the towers went down and for one thin reason or another the hornets nest had to be poked instead of treating the terrorists like the criminals that they are and asking the world to helped us track them down.

all the while Bin Laden laughs from behind stacks of the Bush families business partners money. Saudi royality is arming for a revolt, Iran sees the profit and power to be gained from our stupidity, the whole unstable middle east gets a little closer to blowing up and we flush our wealth and the blood of our military down the toilet. Maybe the Christian wackos are right, maybe this is the beginning of Armageddon.

But don't worry, Petraeus says things are just fine.
What a fucking fiasco.
