The Land of the Rising Buck

Here's another little snippet of nonsense from the land of the rising buck.

Hong Kong has several 'entertainment' districts, Shanghai Street and reclamation Street are filled with 'One Chicken Houses' in Cantonese a chicken is a whore. The law allows single ladies to ply their trade but disallows brothels, to Kowloon, filled to overflowing with eateries and drinkeries. On HK island there is Lan Kwai Fong an area of bars frequented mostly by young overpaid eejits and then there is Soho.

Soho is reached via the longest escalator in the world and its pubs and restaurants tend to be a little on the pricy side.

Perched on the hillside and for the most part hidden from view stands Man Mo temple. Thats OK, there are hundreds of temples in Hong Kong, but Man Mo temple is a little different. Its clientele are the night people. The pimps, whores and publishers of 'adult' literature. It is financed by its patrons and sits on one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the area.

Of course these people are seldom seen, as when we are in the nearby pubs, they are plying their dubious trades in the bars and clubs of the red light district of Wan Chai.

This temple exists in a city that bans topless dancers and used to employ people to stick small, round, black discs over nipples in magazines and who will cheerfully pixelate (?) out any signs of decolletage in a televised period play!
