The left's attempt to control the media

NOVA

U. S. NAVY Veteran
The Obama Administrations use of gov. agencys to control what our free speech rights by using the IRS, NSA, DOJ and now the FCC is getting more serious
every day.....they attempt to silence what we say and now what we will hear....they will dictate the criteria for what information is "critical" for Americans to have and obviously by extension, what we won't have.
-----------------------

The FCC may have suspended its invasion into American newsrooms, but the controversial "Critical Information Needs" study also has George Soros' fingerprints all over it.

While disturbing, this should come as no surprise since Soros' gave more than $52 million to media organizations from 2000-2010.

Two schools were working with FCC on the project, according to Byron York of The Washington Examiner. The University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Communication and Democracy, were tasked by the FCC with coming up with criteria for what information is "critical" for Americans to have. The FCC study would have covered newspapers, websites, radio and television, according to The Washington Post.

On top of the 1st Amendment problems with this proposal, the schools involved have strong ties to liberal billionaire George Soros' Open Society Foundations and have gotten more than $1.8 million from since 2000.

The journalism programs at these schools have even more ties to Soros besides their funding, including faculty members writing for university-based publications allied with Soros-funded outlets.

I wonder why you threw that yahoo link in there... It really runs counter to the other two and is not even about the same issue.

Just toss a bunch of shit at the wall and see how much sticks?

Justice Department secretly subpoenaed almost two months' worth of telephone records for 21 phone lines used by reporters and editors for The Associated Press. Separately, the department secretly used a search warrant to obtain some emails of a Fox News journalist.

So....I consider it related to intimidation of the media; especially whistle blowers, (by the DOJ) and related to our free speech...of course, only 'selected' media....

but I don't see you in particular caring about any of this now.....that will flip flop when and if its done by a Republican admin.

I wonder if the 4th Estate will provide cover for the administration now that it (further) finds itself in the administration's crosshairs ? You dont have to like media bias (its always been there of course) but the idea of direct interferance from the government should boil the blood of anyone at all. We have many examples inhistory to see the effects of this and none of them are good.

Ahhh Dude....I knew you would bring so much insight to the debate, otherwise i would have banned your participation....

These words are the most offensive and dangerous that can be stated in a free society. This is Fascist when Government deems they can be the "decider" for what information is critical to its citizens.

But alas, with 51% of the American sheeple being ignorant dupes and willing wards of the state, this would be a natural progression for leftist Fascistas who are unsuccessful in shutting down dissent.

Silencing dissent by Obama.....its so 'in your face' people just don't see it as a serious threat....
at least pinheads don't....

Michigan Democrat Rep. Gary Peters threatens TV station licenses over Obamacare ad

http://washingtonexaminer.com/michi...on-licenses-over-obamacare-ad/article/2544430

It was a koch brothers add that was lying through its teeth and Peters went after it as he should have:

The Detroit News interviewed Boonstra Jan. 28 when she was the guest of Republican Rep. Tim Walberg of Tipton at the State of the Union address in Washington. The one-minute ad makes no mention that Boonstra successfully enrolled in a new Blue Cross plan where she’s able to retain her University of Michigan oncologist and continues to receive the life-saving oral chemotherapy.

The ad also does not mention that Boonstra’s health care premiums were cut in half when she enrolled in a new Blue Cross plan, to $571 a month from $1,100. The new plan, however, increases out-of-pocket costs, such as doctor’s visits going from $20 to $50, she told The News.

Were ANY of the tv stations that carried this lie on air for 5 YEARS even threatened with losing their license for airing the lie ? Did they ever receive a letter that said:

“For the sake of both FCC licensing requirements and the public interest, your station should immediately require Pres. Obama and Democrat politicans to provide the factual documentation for its claims if you are going to continue airing this claim."

White House website, Nov. 11:
If you like your plan you can keep it and you don't have to change a thing due to the health care law.

Here is a list of some who have promised individuals could keep their health plans:
Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, June 10, 2009: We here in the Senate are working on legislation that will protect people's choice of doctors, will protect their choice of hospitals, will protect their choice of insurance plan. If you like what you have today, that will be what you have when this legislation is passed. (Source: Remarks on the Senate floor.)
Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, July 28, 2009: The reform we are pursuing … not only means making sure you can keep your family's doctor or keep your health care plan if you like it but also that you can afford to do so. (Source: Remarks on the Senate floor.)
Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, July 30, 2009: Many people say: I like my health insurance right now. I don't want to change. I don't want to go into Medicare or Medicaid. I like what I have. Would you please leave people alone. The answer is yes. In fact, we guarantee it. We are going to put in any legislation considered by the House and Senate the protection of you, as an individual, to keep the health insurance you have, if that is what you want. What we are trying to create are voluntary choices and opportunities. (Source: Remarks on the Senate floor.)
President Obama, Aug. 15, 2009: At the same time — I just want to be completely clear about this; I keep on saying this but somehow folks aren't listening — if you like your health care plan, you keep your health care plan. Nobody is going to force you to leave your health care plan. (Source: Remarks from town hall on health care.)
Sen. Mark Begich of Alaska, Dec. 24, 2009: Alaskans who have health insurance now, and are happy with it, can keep it. (Source: Press release.)
President Obama, March 25, 2010: From this day forward, all of the cynics, all the naysayers — they're going to have to confront the reality of what this reform is and what it isn't. They'll have to finally acknowledge this isn't a government takeover of our health care system. They'll see that if Americans like their doctor, they'll be keeping their doctor. You like your plan? You'll be keeping your plan. No one is taking that away from you. (Source: Remarks in Iowa City, Iowa.)
Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, Sept. 29, 2010: From the beginning, the law has been about preserving what is good about American health care. That is why one of the central promises of health care reform has been and is: If you like what you have, you can keep it. That is critically important. If a person has a plan, and he or she likes it, he or she can keep it. (Source: Remarks on the Senate floor.)
Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, April 6, 2012: This bill will help make health insurance more secure for those who already have it and make coverage available for millions of uninsured Americans. And it is important to remember that for those who already have health insurance, the law allows you to keep your existing plan. (Source: Press release.)
President Obama, June 28, 2012: First, if you're one of the more than 250 million Americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance — this law will only make it more secure and more affordable. (Source: Remarks on Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act.)
Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon, web page accessed Nov. 11, 2013: If you like your current health insurance, you will be able to keep it. And you will be able to continue seeing your current doctor. Health care reform would simply give you the choice to change insurance providers if you so choose. (Source: Q & A webpage.)
Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina, fact sheet accessed Nov. 11, 2013: For middle class families, health care reform … Ensures you can keep the coverage you have and guarantees coverage if you change or lose your job. (Source: Fact sheet.)
White House web page, accessed Nov. 11, 2013: If you like your plan you can keep it and you don't have to change a thing due to the health care law. The President addressed concerns from Americans who have received letters of policy cancellations or changes from their insurance companies in an interview with NBC News, watch the video or read a transcript. (Source: White House website.)

If a media outlet airs an add that is proved to be false, their license can be put in jeopardy, as indeed it should. Peters did the right thing.

And Peters also dropped his bullshit threat like a hot potato....

Media outlets normally don't investigate the truthfulness of what people say or claim....even if they claim 'Camels are the best tasting smokes in the country'.....that is not for them to determine....
If they did, Obama's lies could have been exposed much sooner instead of airing for 5 years.....and you wouldn't see another politican on tv ever again.

He threatened these people because he could, because of his position....

And all this time I thought you all thought Obama was a commie, turns out you think he is a right wing loon. Who knew?

I'm curious about this post because I see CORPORATE press as Obama's biggest donors from ABC, NBC and CBS and wonder why his perspectives changed after he was in office. This "Obama owns the press" notion is a lack of understanding about Citizens Unitied in my mind.....And no story, or post has made a change in that.

Anybody can threaten anybody with anything. Your claim is bogus.
