A row is brewing over Oxford University accepting a large donation from the heirs of Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s and a buddy of Hitler. Part of the money will be used to endow a Mosley Professorship.
A movement to “decolonize” Oxford has been in the news lately, targeting Cecil Rhodes – alumnus, major benefactor and founder of the Rhodes scholarships. Rhodes was a self-made mining magnate in South Africa and a COLONIALIST. A strong faction of academics and students is aiming to cancel him. So far nothing has been heard from them on this latest matter.
Historical footnote: The British Union of Fascists, popularly known as the BFs (Bloody Fools) made a lot of noise but had little impact in Britain. They never had an MP. Oswald Mosley had a lot of inherited money, though.
