the most expensive failure in American political history

America has been staging a “fascinating political-science experiment” for the past few months,The question being tested: how far can an “uninspiring” political candidate get if they have an essentially unlimited war chest? two weeks ago, we got the answer: “Not very far at all!” Former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg spent more than half a billion dollars on his three-month campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, hiring an army of staff and deluging the airwaves with adverts. Yet after all that, he failed to win a single state in last week’s Super Tuesday contests, leading him to bow out of the contest. His only victory was in the tiny territory of American Samoa, where wall-to-wall ads and seven full-time staff helped him win 49.9% of the vote, or 175 actual votes. The Bloomberg run was “the most expensive failure in American political history”.

Bloomberg will write off those losses on his taxes.....) He wont miss a dime of the money.

While I agree that he won't miss the money, (because afterall, what's half a billion when you've got 59.5 more at home?), writing it off his taxes doesn't mean he's just going to get it all back.

Writing it off will certainly lower his tax bill (assuming he even pays any) but not by an amount equal to what he spent.

He's still out a couple/few hundred million.
