The New World Order - what does it mean to you?

The NWO goes back further than many people think. H. G. Wells published a book of that title in 1940. But it only became a popular meme on the far right with the collapse of communism, when all-American patriots like the John Birch Society suddenly found themselves without a boogeyman. The NWO fit the bill.

Mainstream politicians would somethimes refer to a NWO (possibly a different one) because it sounded impressive and they needed something to put in a speech. In 1990 George H. W. Bush told Congress: "We have before us the opportunity to forge for ourselves a New World Order ..." (this is still cited as evidence that there really is one). Later, however, Gorbachev said they could have had a NWO in the 1990s but missed their chance, and he should know.

Among 9/11 'truthers' of a certain type, the NWO is a favorite candidate for whodunnit, along with the 'Zionists' (code for International Jewry). Sometimes the 'Zionists' ARE the NWO.

Now some people say that President Trump will save us from the NWO. So far his efforts in that direction have consisted of picking quarrels with America's allies while cozying up to the likes of Putin, Kim and Erdogan. I think we can infer that they are not part of the NWO - either that or Trump doesn't know what he's doing.

So, what is the New World Order?

Thanks to all of these conspiracy nuts, the New World Order has become a meaningless term. It means whatever you want it to mean.

Which is too bad, because if politicians decide they want to create a North American Union, similar to the European Union, any opposition to it will be undercut by idiots screaming about the Deep State and the Illuminati.

I have responded in kind by equating conservatism with ignorance and racism. But I do not have to work too hard at it, because it is more akin to the truth than it is to propaganda
