Not Only Do Dead People Vote But They Also Collect Welfare

In 2012, we saw numerous reports of dead people voting in a number of state primary elections and the general election in November. In all likelihood, thousands of votes were cast from the grave for a number of politicians, mostly Democrats. Even more absurd was when Florida went to purge their voter rolls of dead people and non-citizens, Eric Holder’s Justice Department tried to stop them.

Now we are learning that dead people cannot only cast their ghostly ballots from beyond, but they can collect welfare as well. But wait! There’s more! Not only can they receive welfare, but some dead people only started receiving welfare after they were dead. I guess being dead prevents you from being able to work and earn a living, so you qualify for government assistance, right?

Massachusetts recently conducted an audit which revealed that the state had doled out $18 million in what they defined as ‘questionable public assistance benefits’ over recent years. Nearly 1,200 dead people were receiving some form of welfare:

“In 1,164 cases, deceased recipients continued to receive a total of $2.39 million in benefits up to 27 months after they had been reported dead. The state Department of Transitional Assistance also paid out at least $368,000 benefits to 178 guardians who claimed deceased persons as dependents, and $164,000 to 40 individuals being claimed by more than one guardian.”

Suzanne Bump, the State Auditor, discovered in the audit that some of the people receiving welfare benefits started doing so after they were dead, indicating cases of fraud (just like the liberal voting systems). There was also a significant amount of suspicious transactions on electronic benefits cards (EBT) totaling $15 million. Of those, $5 million worth of food benefits had been used all at once, which raised red flags. Five regional offices were not able to produce the necessary documentation for over 30,000 EBT cards.

The Massachusetts Department of Transitional Authority (DTA) came under attack in February when it was discovered that the department was negligent in verifying benefits recipients. The failure may have cost the state up to $25 million in payments made to non-qualifying recipients. Daniel Curley, Director of the DTA resigned in the wake of the February revelation which prompted the audit.

The ironic part is that I know some individuals who have medical conditions that prevent them from working who have been denied benefits time and again. So please tell me how a dead person can apply and receive benefits when a living person can’t?

Our government and social structure is so messed up that it allows dead people, or people assuming the identity of dead people, to vote, to collect welfare and who knows what else. The next thing you’ll know, we’ll have a dead person being elected President of the United States. After all, if you don’t have to verify your birth, you shouldn’t have to verify your death either, should you?

I don't know anyone who argues that the system doesn't get abused. Just that it doesn't get abused that much and efforts to make it more difficult to get assistance will result in people who really need it not getting it. And I didn't see anythign in the Bump report (to the extent it is accurate) that moves me much.

Let's look at the hard numbers (and not the squishy "suspicious transaction," "may have cost up to" bullshit): under $3 million in improperly paid benefits; 1,200 dead people getting benefits over a 18 month period. In a system that pays out $1.29 billion per year in benefits to 900,000 recipients. So like, 0.2% of benefits were improperly paid representing, like, 0.1% of recipients -- and that's assuming that the impropper benefits were paid out over a year, not 18 months.

And the takeaway is what, exactly? I think it's outrageous that people game the system and that people in actual need don't get benefit to which they are entitled because there are scammers, but what exactly should be done about the extreme minority of recipients improperly receiving an extreme minority of benefits?

Would you deny the "living impaired" from being able to collect what they deserve?
Don't you realize that they have given more, to the system, then they'll ever be able to collect?
Aren't you aware of the discrimination that those who suffer from being saddled with death, already have to face? :palm:

Love to shut liberals down!

So why not post all of the truth?

Bump’s audit found that 1,160 recipients were either dead or used a deceased person’s Social Security number, costing $2.4 million *between July 2010 and April 2012.

It also flagged another $15.6 million in suspicious transactions from electronic benefit cards *between 2010 and 2012, including cards that were used as far away as Alaska, Hawaii, or the US Virgin Islands, suggesting the recipients either no longer lived in Massachusetts or had extra cash for travel.

Bump said that she thought the bulk of the $1.7 billion a year in welfare programs the state *provides each year was probably spent properly, but she was disturbed that the state did not do more to investigate obvious signs of abuse or waste.

“It pains all of us in the auditor’s office to think that the program’s integrity is not being maintained,” Bump said. “The most frustrating finding is that we were able to identify so many patterns of activity that could have raised suspicions, but did not.”

That comes to about 1.42% of the total.

Of course fraud exists. It's just not a rampant as you and the right wish, nor is it solely at the hands of just blacks and democrats. Factually, more welfare recipients are white and conservative.

It's much worse than you think and worse among idiot Obama voters, I don't care what race they are.
