The Taliban?

Radical liberal
Does anyone know what the Taliban is? It is a small tribe of desert nomads living in a remote area of Afghanistan. What they are not is a global terrorist organization. Yes they are ultra conservative Muslims. But they are hardly a threat to the power of the U.S. military.

When has threat potential ever mattered? The viet cong weren't a threat to the us, didn't stop us sticking our nose in there. If we don't start a war every couple years or so people forget who to hate.

They are a real threat to Pakistan and would take over if they could. Would you really want them to control a nuclear armed Pakistan? I think it is only a matter of time before some terrorist organisation gets hold of some nuclear material and lets off a dirty bomb in a major city.

^^^Think about it. Time can stretch out to infinity. As a reactionary force (meaning it will always be 'defending' and never initiating) security against any radical group obtaining the power and means to create a bomb will always be expensive, mostly passive, and a step behind. Technology and intelligence can help mitigate the difficulty, but the odds are against the world. I suppose we can question exactly how long this will take, but even as we speak entities hostile to the west in general are working to aquire such. I think within our (my) lifetime there will be a crisis of some kind.

People also might realise who the real enemy is and take to the streets. Foreign enemies make government at home easy.
