The truth is that New York City

Is one of the safest big cities in the world.

Given that the population is over 8 1/2 million people and share 320 sq miles, NYC's crime rate is impressively low. According to FBI data, NYC is the safest big city in the U.S., ranking above San Jose and San Diego, California.

Daily ridership in the subway averaging 3 million a day

Hundreds of different cultures from all over the world live in the city as neighbors

Listening to goobers who live south of the Mason Dixon line, who never lived or visited NY would have everyone think it's like a scary dystopian movie where people of color are rampaging

Crime there is on track to be worse than in the late 70s and early 80s.

42nd street shops are all boarded up, insane restrictions on restaurants. Democrats have NYC lower than it's ever been, ever.

NYC scares you yokels, NY post is a fox Murdoch outfit feeding fear to the flyover country crowd

NYC is one the safest city's in the world

Well they have a better mayor now. This dude seems alright, IMO. He's inheriting a lot of bullshit from the previous mayor, but I think he'll do OK.

Good vibes from this guy.

Excluding 9/11, the highest murder rate in NYC was in 1990, and was 2,245. Last year, the murder rate was 488. Literally the murder rate could double, and then double again, and would still be well below the 1990 murder rate.

While the murder rate has been a bit lower, it starts being impossible for that many people to live together without at least some murders. New York City is close to the minimum.

Back in 2012, there was an entire 24 hours without a single violent crime in all of New York City, population nearly 9 million. They were quite proud of no killings, assaults, fights, or any other violent crime.

Wyoming's governor at the time piped up claiming Wyoming never has violent crimes. His own Wyoming Highway Patrol had to admit they have never seen a 24 hour period without violent crime, even though their population is one twentieth as much.

In 2012, NYC had logged 16 years of Giuliani and Bloomberg. Then Bloomers decided to make his third term less serious, before handing the reigns off to the city's most incompetent buffoon in its history.

Counter Point:

The Big Apple is on pace to hit nearly 500 murders before the close of 2021 — a bleak milestone not seen in a decade.

As of Sunday — and with five days left on the year — the NYPD has recorded 479 slayings, driven by a startling surge in gun violence across the city, data shows.

The Big Apple hasn’t recorded more than 500 murders since 2011 when there were 515 on the books, according to the data.

In 2012, homicides dropped to 419. In the following years, they plummeted into the 300s each year, except for 2017 when the city recorded 292 murders.

New York City actually had 488 murders in 2021. That was nearly 500, so that much is right.

But it is well below the 2245 murders of 1990. The lowest that New York City saw during the 70's and 80's was 1117 in 1970, which is more than twice the rate of 488.

Saying that the murder rate is at 1980's rates is just not factual.
