I saw McAuliffe's defeat coming days ago. And some of it was his own fault.

First of all, no governor has ever been re-elected for a 2nd term in that state for the last 170 years.

Secondly, no governor candidate of the same political denomination as the current president has been selected by Virginians in the last 11 gubernatorial elections.

Thirdly, he didn't realize who the majority of voters in the election were going to be- WHITE SOCCER MOMS- in a state that is 69% WHITE!

He spent too much energy trying to point out that his opponent was just another Donald Trump in disguise (which is actually true), but that is not what the soccer Moms were most concerned about. What they were concerned about was how to get their children studies caught back up after the school shutdowns, and all the mask wearing, and the paranoia they had of something they were being lied to about by the other candidate- and that is the FAKE NEWS that Critical Race Theory was being taught in Public Schools. White Mothers were being told that the Black students were going to rebel and take their frustrations out on their White Children, when and if, they ever learned the truth about slavery and the truth about their plight in American history. So the other candidate used a scare tactic and Conspiracy Theory that was engineered upon a lie, to put fear into White Soccer Moms that their children would be harmed in class by Black Students wanting immediate revenge.

So Mcauliffe had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the State education system to dispel the Fake News, and point out the Conspiracy theories of his TRUMP-LIKE opponent, and reassure the Voters that his opponent was being dishonest about it, and assure them that this was not now- or never would be the case. And he could have said a lot of things that Soccer Moms wanted to hear about what he was personally going to do to get their children through the pandemic and keep them safe at school.

But, instead, he told his constituents that Parents should not have a say-so about what was being taught to their children in the classroom!

And, at that moment- I KNEW HE HAD DOOMED HIMSELF. Parents do not want to hear that!
