Yet he never once proposed or supported a law to make contraception illegal.
Which is why I wrote, "They would if they could." Santorum may be crazy but he's no fool. If he ever mentioned his intention to do so he would have been out of the race a long time ago.
If I recall there was another conservative (maybe it was Santorum himself) who noted that while Presidents make decisions based on the Constitution and advice from advisors there will be times when a decision is based on ones beliefs. Most people take their beliefs into consideration even if they may not be able to directly act on them.
We see the constant eroding of abortion rights, be it mandatory examinations or changing conception dates. We know such laws against contraceptives were in effect in the past. In post #102 \\()// wrote, “Griswold v. Connecticut, 381 U.S. 479 (1965),was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution protected a right to privacy. The case involved a Connecticut law that prohibited the use of contraceptives.” I wonder if 1965 is included in PmP’s definition of “ever”.
For anyone to suggest the idea of prohibiting contraceptives is "impossible, never happen, no one would even consider it" is either naive or deliberately lying. It has happened and Presidential candidates have openly stated their opposition to them. Like abortion, there are those who have nothing better to do than sit around and think of ways to obstruct and ultimately destroy women's rights.
Presidential candidates have expressed their opposition. Laws have been passed and put in force prohibiting contraceptives in the past. It's claimed the Bible prohibits interference in reproduction and there's no lack of so-called Christians who believe in the Bible. So, what would the "average" person think?
Today, there may not be an obvious way to prohibit contraceptives but that does not mean there aren't people thinking of ways to do exactly that.
Did you listen to what \\()// posted regarding Santorum and contraceptives? It was a more than "I just don't think it's right." Sounds like he ties the destiny of humanity to it!
