When a nationally influential evangelical leader gathered dozens of pastors at his home church to hear from a presidential candidate, he had a simple message: Rick Santorum is one of us, and your parishioners should vote for him.

Nearly a hundred pastors from all over Louisiana and from as far away as Texas and Colorado accepted Family Research Council President Tony Perkins’ invitation to hear a personal pitch Sunday from the former Pennsylvania senator, who met with them in a private briefing before he addressed the more than 1,400 faithful who crowded into the sanctuary at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.

“What we need to do in this country is to rebuild that culture of life and rebuild that culture of marriage and families,” Santorum said, standing in a small back room as the invited pastors gathered...

They should all have their tax exemptions taken away. It really bothers me when they use the pulpit to endorse candidates.

That's probably going to happen some day when they go to far.

I've said for a while on the Catholic sex abuse cases and how the Vatican has dragged it's feet that if the US eliminated their tax exempt status till they fixed that problem they would take about two weeks (if even that long) to fix the problem.

Yes, they would, great idea.

Republicans aren't the only ones guilty of this.

Democrats often stage political rallies in churches.

All churches should be taxed, then they can preach politics all they like.

I agree, I believe in the separation of church and state.

i wonder if there are enough concerned christians to get a constitutional amendment to override the first amendment regarding church and state passed through congress and 3/4 of the state legislatures

i certainly hope not

There is no First Amendment "separation of church and state", is there?

I imagine the best way to reduce religious bigotry would be to eliminate the tax deduction for giving to religious institutions. Then we'd see how many people really give "from their hearts", wouldn't we?

i am all in favor of removing the tax deduction and tax exemptions given the churches, temples and synagogues etc.

then watch the rain fall of shrinking religious institutions

I suspect that the "generosity" of many of the "faithful" is tied to tax deductions.

why not, and let us include the nra

if a not for profit organization engages in the political arena, then they should not be not for profit

......your original statement....

we're not just talking about politics, we're talking about eliminating all tax deductions and exemptions.....

or weren't you aware that the NAACP also has the right to hold a meeting and invite a political candidate to speak.......
