trump was literally a Democrat 11 years ago. he tried repeatedly to run for office as a Democrat. he wanted the Democrats to elect him as President.
The Democratic voters would not elect him, or even take him seriously. he did not pick the Republicans, the Republicans picked him. When the Democrats would not accept him, he found that the Republicans would accept him.
trump used to be strongly pro-choice, and he used to support single payer healthcare. he was way to the left of Obama or Biden. You can still see some of that come out.
