A Florida would-be robber was taken to the hospital after the people he attempted to rob fought back.

Police responded to a call where officers found Adrian Mangual-Ayala, 16, being forcefully restrained on the ground.

Mangual-Ayala had asked the two victims cashing a check at a supermarket for a ride.

The victims agreed and let the teen ride in the backseat.

As they were driving, Mangual-Ayala took out a firearm, put it to the driver’s head demanded money, and threatened to kill the victims.

The driver threw money at Mangual-Ayala while the passenger jumped into the backseat to disarm him, police say.

A struggle continued between the teen and the passenger outside of the car and Mangual-Ayala was restrained until police arrived.

The suspect was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was treated, released and arrested.

Mangual-Ayala faces charges of two counts of robbery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm for somebody under the age of 18. He was also charged with violating probation.

just deserts (plural only)

(idiomatic) A punishment or reward that is considered to be what the recipient deserved.

It may appear that they're getting ahead by cheating, but they'll get their just deserts in the end.

Usage notes

Deserts here is the plural of desert, meaning "that which one deserves". "Desert" is now archaic and rarely used outside this phrase.

The spelling just desserts is non-standard. It is sometimes used as a pun in, for example, restaurant names.
