The man accused of killing a Pittsburgh police K-9 was held on $1 million bail Friday. Charges in the death of a police dog are not the same as a human officer.
John Lewis Rush faces as many as seven years in prison if convicted of a third-degree felony for attacking the dog.
If you tack on cruelty to animals, reckless endangerment and other charges, Rush could be looking at 20 to 40 years in prison.
Rush was moved to special isolation custody at the Allegheny County Jail to protect him from the general population.
