I cant belive it if these guys are going to try to minimize Foley's actions!

Do you have a link to this?

I'm not surprised though. You should have heard their base on CSPAN this morning. I think maybe one or two republicans were outraged, however I think their outrage was more toward the fact that he is a closet gay rather than him being a child predator.

Honestly, I think I've given up with that crowd, they trivialize any and everything their party does. One caller called in and said, "what fallout?" "its just one guy and it has nothing to do with the party......." as he proceeded to blame the dems for something. When the host pointed out that top republican officials may have known the extent of his misdeeds, he proceeded to dem-bash.

Rest assured a dixie will somehow blame Clinton for this.

a hard core right winger on local talk radio was saying this morning that the republicans should be ashamed. His comment was:

"and we criticized Clinton for Monica yet condone THIS?"

I've heard anyone outrightly condoning it, I've heard them trivializing it and moving on to blaming dems. I've heard few expressing any outrage.

That 16 yr old boy was a liberal that corrupted poor Foley. Foley is the victim here, what are you guys going on about anyway ? ;)

What will the Religous Right and all those guys say... Republican's loose morals led to this?

Matthew Loraditch, a page in the 2001-2002 class, told ABC News he and other pages were warned about Foley by a supervisor.

Loraditch, the president of the Page Alumni Association, said the pages were told "don't get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff."

Staff members at the House clerk's office did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Yep. That's pretty much what I said earlier. Whatever "October Surprise" was in the making it won't do what this will do. The leadership of the Rs pretty much screwed the pooch on this one.

The Culture of Corruption has reared its ugly head again!

Americablog: White House downplays Foley scandal as "simply naughty emails"
10/02/2006 08:33:00 AM

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, appearing on CNN this morning, downplayed the Foley scandal. Soledad later noted that Snow "tried really hard to minimize the impact and any kind of political fallout."

Soledad asks as "a parent" why any communication between a 16-year old page a Member of Congress doesn't "raise red flags, major, massive red flags." Snow responds, "t's not always pretty up there on Capitol Hill. And there have been other scandals, as you know, that have been more than simply naughty e-mails."

ThinkProgress has the video of the Bush White House defending a child sex predator.

"Simply naughty emails"? That's all they were says the Bush White House. Just naughty emails between a 52 year old member of Congress and some 16 and 17 year olds childen. Just naughty emails when a grown man asks a sixteen year old boy to measure his penis. Just naughty emails when a member of Congress asks a child to describe how he masturbates.

Well, no one has outrightly stated it was okay - mind you I didn't hear the entire broadcast. But just as your article states, there is a tendency with them to marginalize the incident and go straight to why the dems are hurting the situation.

Standard partisan fare: "But, but, but..... the Dems are just as bad!"
