True Statement by Chris Rock

Is there a point or that just the TOP ... of your Head?
Yes...the point is Obama is bi-racial...is he not?
It's not all about black and white, is it?
Surely, you don't embrace bi-racial individuals with the less love than you do black people...

Nope. The point is saying Obama is progress, implies that no blacks were qualified to be president in the past, but finally Obama reached that level. It is insulting to blacks. Rock is suggesting that Obama shows evolvment by whites. Blacks knew better. They were well aware that many blacks in our history were capable of doing the job.

Bi-racial has nothing to do with it.

It depends on how you interpret the meaning and intent of the statement "Obama is progress".

Rock seems to assume that the intent of the statement was to suggest that finally a black person was found that was qualified for the job. When I hear that statement, I assume the meaning and intent was that society as a whole is making progress.

Honestly, I've never heard the statement made by the kind of person who would even think what Rock claims it means. Anyone who would think that Obama was the first black person in history to be qualified to be President, a) wouldn't think Obama was qualified either and b) wouldn't say it to begin with, as they would be acknowledging that Obama was qualified. Something they would never do.

I think Rock, if he really said that, was just looking to find and expose some bigotry and prejudice where it might not actually exist, by reading into a statement something which was not necessarily there. Or maybe he just honestly misinterpreted it.

Nope, he got it right.

Bi-racial has nothing to do with it.

There have been many black men and women qualified to be POTUS. It took *white people* getting over their thang about race to elect the first black person.

Then it took the combined outrage of the racists to select the travesty we have now.

The issue isn't whether whites were willing to vote for black candidates or whether there were qualified black candidates. They had to actually choose to run for office and have sufficient charisma and character to win. And, they have to be better than most of the other candidates in their party. People like Jesse Jackson or Shirley Chisholm did not meet those criteria. Did that mean those voting in the Democratic primaries were racists?

I disagree.

Rock is assuming he knows what each and every person means when they say a certain thing, which of course he doesn't.

One person can say that blacks have made progress and not mean anything close to them having deserved what happened years ago. Likewise, a person can say that Obama was a sign of progress without meaning he was the first black person in history qualified to be President.

IMO, Rock is applying the most negative connotation possible to those two statements.

MLK met every qualification and would have made an excellent President.

Think he would've come close in an election running against a white man?

No, but he was a civil rights leader, not a politician. By definition he was more aggressive seeking major changes before many were ready. If MLK had been a white man he would have had no more chance to be elected.

Holy crap, we actually agree about something.

Anyone who has listened to more than five minutes of Rock's stand up, knows much of it is racist nonsense.
