Former President Donald J. Trump urged the Supreme Court on Tuesday to rule that he is absolutely immune from criminal charges stemming from his attempts to subvert the 2020 election.

“The president cannot function, and the presidency itself cannot retain its vital independence,” the brief said, “if the president faces criminal prosecution for official acts once he leaves office.”

The brief, Mr. Trump’s main submission to the justices before the case is argued on April 25, continued to press an expansive understanding of presidential immunity, one that it said was required by the very structure of the Constitution.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Donald Trump has launched his general election campaign not merely rewriting the history of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, but positioning the violent siege and its failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election as a cornerstone of his bid to return to the White House.

At a weekend rally in Ohio, his first as the presumed Republican Party presidential nominee, Trump stood onstage, his hand raised in salute to the brim of his red MAGA hat, as a recorded chorus of prisoners in jail for their roles in the Jan. 6 attack sang the national anthem.

An announcer asked the crowd to please rise “for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6th hostages.” And people did, and sang along.

Yet, the Constitution gives Congress the power to impeach and convict a president and remove him from office.

How is that any more distracting than criminal prosecution. Impeachment doesn't even require guilt beyond a reasonable doubt or violation of criminal laws.

In fact , totally wrong. America was founded on 3 equal branches. You think a president should be above the law. That was not what we were trying to build. The founders were not trying to make a monarchy. You and Trump are wrong, as usual.

The constant comparison to Goebbels and Hitler is getting really old... there's no basis for that kind of language...it minimizes the horrific history of Hitler and the Holocaust...and that's just unacceptable...
Does President Trump say things that at times rile up the Democrats and a bit over the Top...no doubt...We all wish he were a bit more polished at times, but then facts are facts...

It's not unacceptable at all. It's obvious.
It's true.

The Communist Russians did probably more than we did to defeat Hitler in war.
We had a Pacific War to fight as well.

The modern fascist Russians, however, have taken over the Hitler role
and the vile American Russianpublican Party is on the new Hitler's side.
Ukraine falling to Russia is on everybody who doesn't vote straight blue tickets.
