‘A huge blow’: USDA cuts threaten to throw Wisconsin’s local food supply into disarray

Federal funding cuts have thrown local food systems in Wisconsin — and across the US — into chaos.

This month, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced it is terminating 2025 funding for two pandemic-era initiatives: the Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) and Local Food for Schools (LFS) programs. The initiatives together provided over $1 billion to farmers in 40 states, supplying fresh food to food banks, pantries and schools.

As I watch the number of grocery stores shrink in my area I wonder how many people go to food banks not because they must, but because they have decided that paying for food is dumb.

Too bad the Feds missed the $250 million a group of Somalis stole out from under Tampon Tim's nose.

Charity begins at home, not with the government. Local incompetence shouldn't be fixed by federal funding.

The story that the pandemic created food need was a lie....the government pumped out gobs of money, household income went up as expenses went down.

But there is a larger game being played here..... those in power want to go to a system where the people expect food medical care and housing to be provided, and then the overlords will be in charge of all that.....as they punish the people they want to punish.....the noncompliant.

Carrots and Sticks.
