Take a really good look at Trump. Stop ignoring all the bad stories about him. Pay attention to some of that. The more you see, the more disgusted you'll be.

What Trump does for his supporters is that he tells them who he thinks is to blame for their problems.

The largest benefit Trump has in his repertoire is that few of his supporters can recognize the root of their problems or are sophisticated enough to see who is responsible (usually the person they see in the mirror).

Trade for example. We have a trade deficit with China. He tells his supporters it’s bad. They believe him. Few could articulate why a trade deficit with China would be a bad thing. A trade deficit is a sign of a strong economy. It is because the US economy is so strong the we consume the products made by not only our factories but the factories in many other nations. That is a sign of strength, not weakness. Many of the same consumers cannot see it is they who is responsible for the trade deficit.

I don't think they believe that Trump will make them rich. They will be allowed to suppress and punish the immigrants, people of color and LBGTs. Trump has made open hate acceptable. He energized the Whitepower types and Nazis. Hate is good when you pick the right targets. With the election looming, hating Liberals is the next act, following the commercials. Trump is a lewd and crude entertainer. He came to the stage at the perfect time.

If you try to tell most Trump fans he was a fortunate son who had $400 million handed to him they call that fake news. If you point out that all the work he did in his life actually resulted in less wealth than if he had simply made wise and prudent market investments, they call that fake news. No, they didn't think Trump would make them rich, but they are of the mindset that actually thinks if they just stumbled on the right gig they could quickly be very wealthy.

Got that right. Trump definitely reinforced their incorrect belief that what is holding them back from building wealth is not the Class War, but a flood of unskilled immigrants taking their jobs. 'Scuze me, but if they wanted to work the jobs that unskilled immigrants take, they are not going to get rich unless they want to live in a very crowded and dirty place, paying next to no rent, and do nothing but work very hard all day long from sunup to sundown.

What they need instead is a bumper sticker on the back of their car: "Victim of the Class War."
