Trump Forced a Deal with the Devil on Bibi

The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday ran an op-ed by Israel Hayom correspondent Ariel Kahana, titled, “Trump Forced Netanyahu to Make a Deal with the Devil.” Kahana argued that while some hostages may return home, Hamas will endure, increasing the likelihood of further Israeli and American casualties.

Kahana suggested that a better deal could have been secured if Jerusalem and Mar-a-Lago had waited just a few more days, but President-elect Trump’s insistence on finalizing an agreement before his January 20 inauguration pushed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu into accepting the current framework.

“Under the agreement, Hamas will be able to replenish its depleted ranks,” Kahana stated. “Seven hundred or more terrorists will go straight from Israeli prisons to the streets of Gaza. Many are sadistic killers who have spent their years behind bars dreaming of a return to the battlefield.”

Kahana also pointed out that the agreement reached on Wednesday would allow goods and fuel to flow into Gaza, which could help Hamas rebuild both its military and financial capacities. Hamas is known for using such resources to dig tunnels and carry out operations against IDF soldiers. The fuel provided could be used to enhance its underground network, preparing for future conflicts.

In a briefing Thursday, David Mencer, an Israeli government spokesman, said Hamas' new demands dealt with the deployment of Israeli forces in the Philadelphi corridor, the narrow strip that borders Egypt and which Israeli troops seized in May.

Mencer said Netanyahu “strongly insisted” late Wednesday that Hamas drop its 11th-hour request. An Israeli troop presence in the sensitive zone, long one of the main sticking points in negotiations, was “crucial to stop weapons smuggling" he said.

“We hope that the details will be finalized,” he said.

A U.S. official with knowledge of the negotiations confirmed that Hamas made a last-minute revision relating to the distance that Israeli forces would withdraw from at least one largely populated area in Gaza, without identifying it. The issue is expected to be resolved quickly and enable the ceasefire to begin as planned this weekend, said the official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

This is not a rhetorical question, I'm legitimately asking your opinion. I know this is often difficult but leaving aside the players (Trump, Bibi, Biden etc.) do you like the deal? If not, what would you have liked to seen?

Palestine will be free, with or without the agreement of the United States of Mexico.

He maybe promised him a Florida condo- out of the reach of the Israeli courts and his ICC arrest warrant.
He could be Zelenskyy's neighbor.

Trump wants a win. It won't be long before Hamas breaks the ceasefire and both Donnie and Bibi will bomb the shit out of them and their supporters.

Trump also wants to be a dictator, a strong man, or, at least, as close as the law allows him. He wants a military parade and the best way to get one is to start a war, win it and then have one thrown in his honor.
