“Trump, who received deferments to avoid the draft during the Vietnam War, has remarked several times about wanting to receive military medals. “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier,” Trump told a veteran who presented his medal to Trump during his 2016 campaign.”

He is a lousy actor and what he says and does oozes his "I don't care about them attitude he has'".We would never accept a cavalier attitude like that from previous presidents. But Trump does not care about dead soldiers or destroyed schools or cities. His followers have lowered expectations of him so low, that anything he says and does is fine.
