A shutdown could have other economic impacts, too. The 35-day shutdown that began in December 2018 and ended in January 2019 delayed over $2 billion in Small Business Administration loans, while mortgage applications dropped 7% during the second week of the shutdown in fiscal year 2014, according to a brief published in 2023 by the Senate Joint Economic Committee.

The Social Security Administration has plans in place to ensure that Social Security checks will still be sent out in the event of a government shutdown.

This applies for Social Security benefits as well as Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance.

The Department of Agriculture is also authorized to send out SNAP benefits for 30 days from the start of a shutdown, funding or no.

What our best interests are is to be free and independent. To be responsible for ourselves and our own families. I would much prefer to die fighting on my feet of starvation then to live on my knees as a slave government dependent beggar. This is a mind set that is instilled in you at a young age that carries thru throughout your life. You either have it or you don't. In a small way I feel sorry for those that do not,....they knowingly chose the chains for themselves living the life of a neglected house pet.

We can either do exactly what we do every time and go with the boat over the falls or do the hard work of turning the boat around before it is too late. We may get blisters on our hands turning the boat but the alternative of going over the falls would be much much worse.
