Trump selects Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz for attorney general

Matt Gaetz resigned from Congress, just before the house ethics committee was going to publish it's findings on his sex trafficking, etc.

Rubio didn't resign, nor did other appointees resign their posts, so why is Gaetz resigning?

Because he knows that if he is not a member of Congress, The house ethics committee no longer has jurisdiction, and will not be able to release it's report.

But, since he is hated by many Republicans, it's hard for me to believe he will pass muster during the Hearings.

Sen Thune was elected to be Senate Majority leader, and he is no MAGA guy, and I doubt he is going to comply with Trump's desire to have the senate take a 10 day recess so that Trump can make recess appointments, which would disallow hearings, etc., and Senate 'advise can consent' in the appointments process, so I doubt that Gaetz will be voted in. However, Trump wields a lot of power, so we shall see what happens.

If Gaetz were to become the AG, his appointment would be demoralizing to the rank and file in the DOJ, because no one worth his or her salt believes Gaetz is remotely qualified. The ONLY thing he has going for him is that he is a Trump sycophant. I realize a lot of MAGA types are thrilled at the plight of Gaetz as AG, but what they don't realize it takes a lot more than one man to implement Trump's agenda, and given that it will most certainly be corrupt,. there won't be many below the AG that will be supportive. There just might be mass resignations. I mean, recall what happened when Trump tried to appoint Jeffrey Clark as AG? Trump had to pull back because of threats of mass resignations.

President-elect Donald Trump has picked bomb-throwing Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz as attorney general.

If confirmed by the GOP-controlled Senate, Trump will elevate the Florida Republican to arguably the most important Cabinet post in the next Trump administration.

The move by Trump would put Gaetz atop the Justice Department, which spent years investigating allegations that Gaetz engaged in sex with underage girls and paid for their transportation. Gaetz denied wrongdoing and the investigation was closed last year without criminal charges against him, although the House Ethics Committee continues to investigate the claims.

As attorney general, Gaetz will be tasked with defending a plethora of controversial Trump policies — from immigration crackdowns to anti-abortion initiatives — that are sure to spark legal challenges.

Trump has fractured the Repub party many times. His battle with McCarthy resulted in them vacating the house leadership and putting them into multiple votes and messes.
Gaetz showed photos of his sex with underage girls on the house floor. He was investigated for his sex law-breaking by Barr. The report of the house investigation was due in 2 days. If you are not a member, the investigation stops. This was a blatant and obvious move to hide his crimes from the people.
Trump is showing the Repub party who is in charge. They do not dare defy him. I will appoint people you hate and you will vote for them 100 percent or face my anger.

Matt Gaetz resigned from Congress, just before the house ethics committee was going to publish it's findings on his sex trafficking, etc.
^^^ Democrat hoax. Meh.
Rubio didn't resign, nor did other appointees resign their posts, so why is Gaetz resigning?
So that his now-vacated seat can be replaced by January 3rd.
Because he knows that if he is not a member of Congress, The house ethics committee no longer has jurisdiction, and will not be able to release it's report.
That's a cherry on top.
But, since he is hated by many Republicans,
Correction: He is hated by many DEMOCRATS who are posing as Republicans.
it's hard for me to believe he will pass muster during the Hearings.
Doesn't matter.
Sen Thune was elected to be Senate Majority leader, and he is no MAGA guy,
Correct. He's another poser (see above).
and I doubt he is going to comply with Trump's desire to have the senate take a 10 day recess so that Trump can make recess appointments, which would disallow hearings, etc., and Senate 'advise can consent' in the appointments process, so I doubt that Gaetz will be voted in. I'm thinking that Thune is going to "play nice" re: Trump's appointments, including Gaetz.
If Gaetz were to become the AG, his appointment would be demoralizing to the rank and file in the DOJ, because no one worth his or her salt believes Gaetz is remotely qualified.
WRONG. It has NOTHING to do with qualifications... it has EVERYTHING to do with the corrupt nature of those fucks and the secrets that those fucks are hiding from the American public.
The ONLY thing he has going for him is that he is a Trump sycophant. Mass resignations is precisely what I WANT to see, and many of them will "self-deport" which makes it even easier.

^^^ Democrat hoax. Meh.
That he committed statutory rape, if that is true, then the public should be made known about it.
So that his now-vacated seat can be replaced by January 3rd.

That's a cherry on top.
so, you don't think the bipartisan report on Gaetz's sex trafficking has any relevance to his appointment as AG? Naturally, you support Trump, a sex abusing fraudster criminal, of course it wouldn't matter to you. I mean, after Repubs electing Trump, his appointment of two pervs on the SC, Corrupt as all hell Justice Thomas and rapist Kavanaugh, why would it matter to you?
Correction: He is hated by many DEMOCRATS who are posing as Republicans.
Whatever, he sure as hell isn't qualified to be AG. Some Repubs have come forward and objected to his appointment.
Doesn't matter.

Correct. He's another poser (see above).

WRONG. It has NOTHING to do with qualifications... it has EVERYTHING to do with the corrupt nature of those fucks and the secrets that those fucks are hiding from the American public.
So you're a conspiracy theorist, eh? how quaint.
Mass resignations is precisely what I WANT to see, and many of them will "self-deport" which makes it even easier.

Mass resignations? That's not a strategy; that's a recipe for chaos. Trump himself couldn't stomach the fallout from such a move. The administrative state, flawed as it may be, is the backbone of governance. Tearing it down isn't reform; it's destruction. And history? It doesn't look kindly on those who dismantle without a plan. So, spare us the fantasy. The administrative state needs fixing, not annihilation. Not only that, if mass resignations are so desirable, then Trump should have held strong in his appointment of Jeffrey Clark, but he blinked and pulled back after threats of mass resignations. So, if your boy Trump doesn't agree with you, what ground are you standing on? Oh, you're one of those 'deconstructing the administrative state' guys, right? That's pure ignorance. Steve Bannon, the promulgator of that idea is a total moron. No one is suggesting the administrative state isn't without faults, but tearing it down is nihilism and, historically speaking, outcomes of doing that have never turned out well.

The inescapable truth is the American people have woken up to the game you wingnuts have been playing. It's amazing how little thinking you people actually do. You're going to repeat the same old tired messages and wonder why no one is listening. People are sick and tired of your drivel.

That he committed statutory rape, if that is true, then the public should be made known about it.
It's not true. It's a baseless accusation that was made YEARS ago... the DOJ didn't prosecute it due to lack of evidence... How quickly you people forget... Democrats can literally trot out the exact same shit from years ago yet you still think that it is some new breaking "damning" story...
so, you don't think the bipartisan report on Gaetz's sex trafficking has any relevance to his appointment as AG?
No. Fake news has no relevancy regarding anything.
Naturally, you support Trump, a sex abusing fraudster criminal, of course it wouldn't matter to you.
Again, fake news (e.g. baseless and otherwise false accusations) has no relevancy regarding anything.

Nope. It is corrupt beyond repair. It needs to be destroyed.

Argument is incompetent. Fail.

Justice Department drops sex trafficking probe of Rep. Matt Gaetz without charges, lawyers say

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department has formally decided not to charge firebrand Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz in a sex trafficking investigation, the lawmaker's lawyers said Wednesday.

"We have just spoken with the DOJ and have been informed that they have concluded their investigation into Congressman Gaetz and allegations related to sex trafficking and obstruction of justice, and they have determined not to bring any charges against him," attorneys Marc Mukasey and Isabelle Kirshner said.

The inescapable truth is that Trump got only 32% of the total electorate to vote for him. Sorry, that's no mandate.
