Trump should tell fired workers

Joe Biden did suggest that coal miners should learn to code.

During a campaign event in Derry, New Hampshire, on December 30, 2019, he spoke about transitioning to "jobs of the future" and said, "Anybody who can go down 300 to 3,000 feet in a mine can sure as hell learn to program as well."

He also added, "Anybody who can throw coal into a furnace can learn how to program, for God’s sake!"

After the Keystone cancellation, it was John Kerry, Biden’s Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, who addressed the job losses more directly. On January 27, 2021, during a press briefing, Kerry suggested that displaced pipeline workers could find opportunities in clean energy, saying, "The president has talked about the need to grow new jobs that pay better, that are cleaner," and specifically mentioned solar power technician roles as an example.
