On a serious note, I have no problem with an American president paying homage to the citizen soldiers of the World War Two-era Red Army. They were primarily responsible, shouldered the lion's share of the burden, and spilled the most blood to thwart the homicidal ambitions of Nazi Germany.
But the May Day parade is wrought with political, historical, symbolic, and propagandistic overtones. Making it unsuitable for the attendance of an American President.
There are so many other ways an American president could offer homage to Soviet war contributions - aka, lay a wreath at a Russian military cemetery. Commiserate with surviving members of WWII veterans and their families. Participate in a collective WW2 ceremony with all our allies, UK, France, Commonwealth, Russia on neutral ground, etc.
