WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump's job approval rating dropped to a new low of 32 percent in a poll released Wednesday, a mark similar to President Richard Nixon's a year before the Watergate scandal forced his resignation.
Trump's disapproval rating of 56 percent in the Monmouth University poll is his highest since becoming president. In August, he had 41 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval ratings.
"This result is not good for the president," said Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute. "Republicans have to be worried about being dragged down by the weight of Trump's negatives in 2018 if this trend continues."
The poll was released a day after Alabama Republican U.S. Senate nominee Roy Moore was upset by Democrat Doug Jones in a state that Trump carried with 62 percent of the vote in 2016. Trump strongly supported Moore in the race.
Trump, GOP, agree to gut tax break
Nixon's approval rating in the Gallup poll dipped to 31 percent in August 1973. President Jimmy Carter reached 31 percent in October 1979, before Iranian hostage crisis. Nixon resigned a year later while Carter lost his re-election bid to Ronald Reagan in November 1980.https://www.rawstory.com/2017/12/tr...historic-low-richard-nixons-during-watergate/
